Imajica by Clive Barker.
Probably a trilogy it's so big, possibly even a TV series due to the insane amount of violence and kinky sex. Guillermo Del Toro would be good for all the creatures and worlds. Even the SJW couldn't hate it as one of the main characters is a gender bender black alien ninja killing machine. Which sounds gay but its actually pretty cool.
my favorite idea ive had is an hbo miniseries based on this book
for you guys who havent read it, each chapter basically tells the interesting stories of these characters who all live on this street in trinidad, with them all intertwining and making this really great sense of a breathing community

Any Neal Stephenson book, they're extremely movie-like so they'd be easy to adapt.
Though they're so long they'd do better as HBO miniseries rather than movies.
