That torture scene in looper was a little unsettling for me. Seeing the dude just hobble over in desperation was sad.

Also, that whole Waxification scene in House of Wax where the dude gets his Achilles snipped and then he's made into a living wax dumny.

I have never watched a Paranormal Activity flick.

They're creepy imo because they feel like they could legit be actual warning signs, like this could show up on your TV. Contingency in particular is kind of fucked up because what if people actually took that seriously and started killing themselves it's kinda fucked up desu

But hey, maybe I'm just an easily scared little fuckwit, who knows.

Leto's arm in Requiem.
Unlike Tetsuo the Iron Man, they played it straight and I couldn't laugh my way through it.

the torture scenes in GitS Jungle Cruise also killed bondage for me.
>>
That first part of Begotten with the lady cutting herself up. The face she makes and the way she playfully jiggles her intestines, and the extremely low quality of the image, the longer it goes on the more uncomfortable it becomes.

Also, seeing Willem Dafoe cum blood in Antichrist took me by surprise.

That said, more disturbing stuff gets posted on 4chan and liveleak than either of those.

Rabbits seems so very fake, from the way it's obviously a sound stage like a sitcom, to the deadpan delivery, and the robotic movements. And then it catches you off guard when someone says something incredibly hurtful. It's like a cognitive dissidence.

>>68123292
Jungle Cruise, that's a fucked up episode. Even the way they show the victims it's not particularly gory, but they soft sell it and have your mind fill in the blanks.

That reminds me, something similar happens in Tale of Tales, and that was pretty fucked up too. Like it was incredibly violent but it straddled the line between being darkly comic and depressing, which just made it even more painful to witness.

That scene in kill list.

That alien/demon at the children's party from Signs was also creepy
>>
Honest to god I have no idea what the name of the movie is but this scene scared me for life. When I was 6 or 7 I got in trouble at a family reunion and my dad sat me in front of the tv and wanted me to think of what I have done. It was some sort of black slavery movie or whatever, but the thing that scared the shit out of me was a scene where the black family's dog had its eye gouged out and it showed the dog standing with its eye dangling before I guess the father took it outside to have it remove. Then later in the movie the black husband and wife were talking and there was a flashback of the black woman being raped by her white slave owners. I am honestly not making this up to stir a shit storm, I still have those images stuck in my head. What the fuck was that movie?!

Begotten is garbage. It's horrendously mundane and drawn out, the imagery is so distorted to be unrecognizable without reading supplemental materials and I get the feeling the whole thing was filmed on a construction site.

I can understand a lot of the things they're going for, but rather than being profoundly terrifying it just feels pretentious and drawn-out (and it's only like 70 minutes) - I think there's a scene where a group of people are dragging someone through a rocky area and there should be this feeling of impending dread but the scene drags on for so long you just wish it would end.\

I got absolutely nothing from watching the movie, and the one .gif of the person disemboweling themself oversells the movie so hard.

>>
>>68126285
Depending on the tribe, sure, you'd see some pretty next level ugly shit. But such tribes would essentially be looked down upon by the many other, more civil, tribes.

The movie made it fairly clear that these particular natives were something far more primitive and animalistic than even the most savage of known tribes; something more akin to cavemen.

>>
>>68127750

That's usually the point of the well-crafted horror, whether it's fictional or not. In fact, whether it's fictional or not usually doesn't matter to the author or the director because in order to understand the workings of fear, you need to realize that it all stems from a mental state. Being terrified of a short story, a film, or anything elicits the same type of response as a real life terror, and fiction's ability to truly disturb you tautologically proves it as being something in the mind rather than outside the body.

Affect, etc, yadayada

the truth is even scarier

their entire civilization (however savage it was) was wiped out by disease before we even started colonizing the west

we showed up to find the 10% left of their population.

that's some fucking biblical shit.

imagine some disease wiping most of the earth out. and then some blue skinned humans, who you don't know where they came from, with advanced technology, showed up and started building houses on the graves of everyone you had just burried

Honestly, Begotten isn't really that fantastic, the opening scene is about the most memorable part. The whole gritty lo-fi aesthetic is way overdone, to the point where it becomes a chore figuring out what the fuck's actually happening. As >>68126420
mentioned, it's horribly drawn out.

>>68128851
Not him, but medical procedures terrify me. Whenever I hear about that lady that went in to get her kidney removed or something and they mixed up the papers and they amputated her feet. Or any movie that has torture done by a medical professional, where you're kept alive against all odds. I haven't seen Martyrs, but the Wikipedia summary of it got me fucked up.

I can't speak for the two anons I replied to, but the thought doesn't unsettle me, actually watching it did. It just made me feel empty seeing the husks of these bodies, thinking that's where I'm going to end up one day.

No doubt. He's played the "big kid" card before, most recently in Transformers 4, but never to that extent. It was like he was told he was supposed to be motion capturing a child character.

Speaking of which. Let's talk about the most traumatizing mocap movie ever made.
Note that Mars needed to lobotomize those moms to get what it needed.

I remember seeing a Star Trek movie in the mid-to-late 90's. It might have been the one with Tom Hardy, I'm not sure. I hadn't watched Star Trek at that age except for about 15 minutes of Wrath of Khan where that guy gets the slug in the ear.

All I remember is one scene where Picard gets a needle in the eye and I just sat there in the cinema trying to press myself into my seat.

I grew up mostly being terrified of Trek.

I've had this movie on the shelf for like two years and I've never watched it. Is it overall good?
>>
>>68129464
It's a magnificent take on nuclear war.
>>
>>68129269
I thought it was dull and (actually) pretentious. You only have to live in the world and use the internet to see bodies get tossed around like paper dolls on a daily basis.

Especially since the movie was made after so many terrible modern wars and tragedies, the reasoning behind it seems sheltered. Only 30 years beforehand normal people were seeing unspeakable horrors on a daily basis, but then this guy comes along and sees a delicate medical operation and pretends it's anything but mundane.
>>
>>68129479
God forbid somebody finds the exceptional in the mundane.
Why the fuck even film things at all?
>>
>>68129537
It's filming paint dry and presenting it to an audience who has never seen paint under the pretence of it being a spiritual experience.
>>
>>68129564
It has no dialogue at all. He literally just filmed it and left any interpretation to the viewer. If anybody saw it as a spiritual experience, it was you, anon.
>>
>>68128450
>shitty cuts to nuke stock footage
>"bloody 'ell" while finishing his poop
>woman furiously pissing herself
>melting E.T. toy at 3:50

>>
>>68129611
That was clearly the intention and the critical consensus. He wouldn't have filmed a pencil being sharpened with the same intentions.
>>
>>68129646
Again, you're going by consensus. Give me an interview where the creator said he was depicting the autopsy under the pretense of a spiritual experience if you want to convince me.

Don't give me that cop-out bullshit. Very few things are filmed without creator intent. Even the title of it and the decision not to use synchronised sound shows his intention.

Asking for the evidence that backs up your claim is a cop-out now?
I don't think so, anon. Your only proof of the director's intentions is your interpretation of his intentions.
>>
>>68130193
Post proof that his work was completely intentionless, a claim you originally made which isn't something that can be gathered from basic critical thinking.
>>
>>68130348
Here's a link to the video. Note the utter lack of spoken or written directorial intention.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMPk_CAaPhU

You're the one making a claim here, anon. I'm just stating the evidence as presented.

>>
>>68123391
>you got what you deserved

what did he mean by this? havent seen the film in a while
>>
>>68127241
what's so masterful about this movie is the fact they used very little blood in it all to get gruseome shit acrossed, that flopping is fucking unsettling, far fucking more than just having his head bashed
>>
>>68130499
>Note the utter lack of spoken or written directorial intention.
That is the intention. It was intentionally done that way to remove outside influences to better elicit an emotional response from the imagery, like the ones described in this thread and by critics.

Just the fact that there were intentional decisions made of the film in relation to editing and sound design is proof that the work was not unintentional or merely incidental.
This is obvious to anybody, your claim of it all being a happy accident is moronic.

>>
>>68130684
I didn't say he had no intention. I said he did not film under the pretense of a spiritual experience, or any other personal interpretation on his part.

Your previous statement, the one I argued against, is simply false. He in no way pretended that the autopsy was anything other than what it was. He left that to the audience.
