Adaptation when?

Adaptation why?

It's my favourite fantasy series of all time, surpassing Tolkien. It's flawed, sure, but not as deeply as critics claim -- and even if it were, I'd still love it, warts and all.

The author James O. Rigney was a Citadel graduate and helicopter gunner who killed LITERALLY thousands of VC, and held a degree in physics. No other author is as based. He imbued his life experiences and knowledge into this masterwork of freemason propaganda. Nothing else like it exists, or ever will exist.
>>
My friend read these books. He really liked them and encourages me to read them, but aren't there like... 13 of them or something?

And didn't the author die with like a few left and the publishing company just made up an ending?

>generic fantasy world
>with generic monster bad guys and evil for evil's sake villian
>shitty, annoying invincible characters
>the most fantastic thing in the world is a race of ugly, stupid, slow cow-people

no thanks, I don't want to watch people licking their lips, tugging at their braids, or thinking about how much they care and love the other main characters countless times.
>>
>>68118535
Tumblr would go into a coma watching something based on this
>>

>It's flawed, sure, but not as deeply as critics claim
its women being self righteous, smug, and manipulative bitches, nervous tics, clothes porn, and ripping off dune like a fucking savage.
>>
>>68118771
The series is literally about women trying to deny men the right to be powerful. What's not to like?

It's an anti-SJW series.
>>
>>68118745
That's all true.

The final Wheel of Time books are about on the level of the Brian Herbert/KJA Dune books, the Betancourt Amber books, or the Nye Myth books.

>>68118809
There isn't much similarity with Dune. I'm a huge fan of both series. There is a little similarity, but to say it's a ripoff like a fucking savage is way beyond the pale. Nothing like that happens.

This aired on FXX. Universal holds the rights.

>>68118867
I had heard that the final few books, while not written by the original author, worked off of the notes he left behind for how he wanted to finish it, so it's not like the ending was just completely made up.maybe I head wrong though.

Sanderson >>>>>> the absolute crap Jordan was producing before he died
>>
>>68118745
it was meant to only be a few books, but it was such a success that TOR made Jordan write more. And you can full well tell he was basically forced to make them because the latter half of the series is mind-numbingly awful.
The first half of the series was okay at best, with a few really good moments between the tedium.
I feel like people really latched on those few good moments, got invested in the lackluster character and stories, and just have some kind of gambler's/stockholm syndrome.

People were so desperate for a fantasy series that was more than the throwaway stuff post tolkien that they latched onto whatever they could.

fuck yes. rand finally has his balls drop once sanderson gets ahold of writing him.

its a damn shame everyone but perrin man the fuck up. Mat was ALWAYS BASED AS FUCK.

Brandon Sanderson didn't read the notes.

>Question: Has it gotten any easier to dig through RJ’s very personalized and, in some ways, maddeningly genius organizational system?
>Brandon Sanderson: You’d actually have to ask that of Maria and Alan since they are the ones who dig through it. I gave up on that after about two months into the first book because I couldn't make heads or tails of it; I just started asking questions of them.
http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=894

>I was working on Towers of Midnight, and I sent an email to Maria saying, "I can't keep track of who is with Perrin. Do you have just a list somewhere?"... Maria comes back and says, "Well I just dug this out of the notes; I hadn't seen it before. Maybe this will help. It's a file called 'With Perrin'". I went, "Oh, good." And I opened it up...no, that's not what it is; it is the names of all the Two Rivers folk who haven't been named in the books yet. [laughter] ...who are traveling with Perrin, and often a little bit about each of them, and a list of several dozen names of people who haven't been named yet. That's the level of detail we're talking about with this, and it was a challenge; it was a challenge on all of us.

>Fortunately, we did have Maria and Alan ... and I would focus my writing, particularly in first draft, on just getting the emotional content of a scene down, right? Get the narrative flow down, make sure it's working, and I would try to get all the voices of the characters right, but I wouldn't worry as much about continuity. I would then send it to Maria, and she would send back this thing with all of these notes saying, "Oh Brandon. Oh Brandon, you can't do this." "Oh Brandon, you killed her." "Oh Brandon..." ... And then we would try and fix all of the problems caused by that, and that's kind of how it went.

>anti-SJW

Not really

Every woman is a bitch, every man is a nu-male (except Mat most of the time, which is why Mat is really the only character people liked)
>>
>>68118991

>Tfw Jordan was going to write a series about Tuon returning to the Seanchan Empire with Mat to reclaim her rightful throne but he died before he could write any of it.

Fuck.
>>
I've always had a tough time putting this above the LOTR trilogy

Certainly better than ASOIAF though
>>
>>68118991
There's also lifting from Tolkien, Arthur, etc. The idea that everything is recycled and legend fading to myth is right at the beginning of every single novel.

I hate discussing this great series with normies and meme-regurgitators because even though it's all spelled out right in the series they like to hit you over the head with things they think are flaws but which are actually deft uses of Aristotelian poetics.
>>
>>68119084
>Certainly better than ASOIAF though

Name even one aspect that WoT does better other than muh magic. In every other conceivable quality, ASOIAF tops it
>>
>>68119037
Huh, sounds disrespectful to the original vision.
Then again, the original vision sounds autistically detailed beyond comprehension.

Hopefully if they ever do a movie series they end it earlier.
>>
>>68119072
damn, its a shame he didnt leave notes for sanderson to unfuck.

I loved the 4th book where Perrin goes full on Guts from berserk/the outlaw josey wales on the trollocs. then nothing about him for what 4-5 books? that was strict bullshit.
>>
>>68119143

Women in power who aren't either batshit insane (Cersei) or who have plot armor.
>>
>>68119185
He apparently did leave notes, it's just they were cryptic and complicated as fuck
>>
>>68119143

Smallfolk/peasant characters becoming relevant.
>>
>>68119143
Plot threads actually go somewhere and don't just end for no reason other than "Muh realism"

Also less blatant pointless gay sex
>>
>>68119143

A great enemy/evil force that actually does something instead of fuck around doing nothing for six novels.

Logical explanations for why some characters move faster than others, meanwhile fat Sam seems to teleport huge distances whilst it takes months for other characters to cover the same distance.
>>
Is wheel of time the ultimate contrarian's choice of high fantasy novels?
>>
>>68119307
I genuinely adore it.
>>
>>68118745
14 books plus a prequel. The author died while writing book 12 but he worked closely with his wife and kept plenty of notes. She passed those notes onto Brandon Sanderson. They collaborated and he wrote.

The only people I'd recommend this series to are people who consider an extremely long series to be a huge plus. The first 3 books are standard fantasy schlock written in an extremely boring way. Books 9 and 10 suck too. The plot armor is incredibly strong, the main villains are laughably retarded, most of the main characters are irritating for most of the series, there's a shit ton of filler, the shift in authors is jarring and takes a few hundred pages to get used to, and there is way too much tsundere bullshit.

That being said, this series has given me some of my biggest "fuck yeah" and gasps of shock moments of all the books I've read. I am happy I read it and if I could erase my memory of it, I'd reread it provided I left myself a note that said "stick with it. trust me."
>>
>>68119084
A Game of Thrones is great.
A Clash of Kings is shit.
A Storm of Swords is phenominal.
A Feast for Crows is FUCKING SHIT.
A Dance with Dragons is overrated, but still good.

The Winds of Winter Will probably be the best book in the series.

George will die and A Dream of Spring will never be released.
>>
>>68119191
Yeah, they're just cunts who argue like high school bitch and are 90% interchangeable

>>68119250
GRRM doesn't really focus on them, but they have some role. And of course there will be some relevant ones because Jordan created like 10000000 fucking characters (inb4 GRRM did too, Jordan is much worse)

>>68119255
What is going somewhere? Being dragged out for book after book until you want all characters involved to die?

>>68119302
The evil force is broods in the background. His minions are retards who get killed/resurrected a million times like it's DBZ. They can do whatever the hell they want, they are written so badly that they there is no tension from their appearance

GRRM spaces the chapters out so you know that a long time passed. And "muh portals" is not really something to brag about
>>
>>68119418
Nothing is perfect, but if we look at what works, if we focus on the positives, there's enough to say the series is an all time great for fantasy genres.
>>
>>68119418
I always expected Shadar Haran to have done more. he was like this M. Bison style final boss BBEG.

then does jack shit. the myrdraal in the first book was genuinely scarier.

that being said, the series would make a damn fine anime.
>>
>>68119302
>A great enemy/evil force that actually does something instead of fuck around doing nothing for six novels.

Oh. You mean the hordes of shadowspawn that are touted as these giant badasses that are proficient in slaughter but only ever manage to kill nameless background characters while Marty and Mary Sue main characters manage to cleave through them with reckless abandon? Yup. WOT certainly did that better than ASOIAF. Why keep them on the back burner to build tension while the main point of the series is political strifes between humans?
>>
>>68119670
>anime
Nuh uh.
Not my wheel of time.

I won't see it transformed into a bunch of shirtless pretty boys with way too much purple and green hair covering their eyes, running around and doing their signature power up dance once an episode to beat the big bad of the week.

This franchise deserves the cinema. I don't care if the director is Kevin Fucking Smith, just no anime.
>>
>>68119670
Animation is the only way it could possibly be done just from a logistics viewpoint. Whoever finally adapts WoT has to be extremely liberal with what they cut out. I bet it could be cut down to 100 hours of material and none but the most die hard fans would notice anything missing. Do we really need Elayne's ascension to the throne to take 4 books?
>>
>>68119937
Lots of the content is description and introspection. The action could easily take place across five to six films.

The only reason it needs to be anime is that it's impossible to depict use the One Power in live action
>>
>>68119670
Yeah definitely. I actually forgot that he even existed until I saw your post just now. To be honest when you take the series as a whole, it just isn't very good. Still far better than ASOIAF though.
>>
>>68119072
I... I have always wanted more Mat and Tuon.

FUCK.
>>
>>68119670
>Shaidar Haran's final form is a dessicated husk

Cuck forced to agree due to domination.

Can the GoTfags please leave this thread? A Game of Thrones only sold copies because of Robert Jordan's blurb, which was almost as large as the title btw.
>>
>Peasant is actually fabled hero of prophecy
>Draws magic sword, enters into courtship with strong willed tsundere
>Turns out peasant boy can rule kingdom better than corrupt city folk due to wholesome country values

How the fuck can anyone stand high fantasy.
>>
No love for Kingkiller Chronicles? Gotta love a magic system that actually respects conservation of energy.

I mean the MC is a turbo-cuck gary stu but the setting is fun.
>>
I dropped it halfway through the first book, it was way to fucking long and seemed to go nowhere and the characters were bland. I have a pretty good attention span but the way he would drag on about literally everything made it really tiresome.
>>
>>68120661
I love WoT but you can't possibly think WoT is better than ASOIAF. Rand is literally the only compelling character and even he is plagued with the harem bullshit.
>>
>>68120779
No it's terrible. I think the phrase "I tipped an invisible hat" actually appears in the book more than once. And aside from that it's pretty poorly written.
>>
>>68120847
I like WoT a lot more than I like aSoIaF.
>>
What's the most popular fantasy series that actually has sex scenes instead of just highly implied lewdness.
