One would think you'd be able to motivate your own opinion. It was good, by the way.
>>
>>68105638
>it was good
So bringing it back just to have it end on a forced as fuck cliffhanger was good to you?
>>
>>68105502

Because instead of continuing the series they went for a really weird soft reboot while pretending two movies and 10 seasons of character development and events didn't happen or it was all a government hoax or something I don't know I stopped watching around the second episode, shit was dumb.
>>

Can we talk about how great seasons 8 and 9 were in retrospect?

That episode in particular is the epitome of what set the original series on a downward spiral of mediocrity and all-out shit. They lighted up on the series and amped up the ridiculous/silly. The great episodes of the show are serious in tone with some levity thrown in to break the mood. That's essential to a quality drama/thriller/horror/sci fi show. When they switched up the formula and made the show a comedy about serious or spooky things it was fucking AWFUL. That lizard meta ha-ha episode was awful. The only episodes that even came close to the original feel of what was good about the show was Founder's Mutation and the part of Home Again that dealt with the garbage man monster. Everything else either fell short or failed entirely.

I never had high expectations for x-files, but enjoyed it here and there nonetheless. What I'm saying is, it's as good as it's always been, give or take a few bad episodes and a few really good ones.

>>
>>68106802
They never did that. If anything, what ruined it was all those too serious "mythology" episodes. X-Files only had a handful of "comedy" episodes per season and they were usually among the best. Of course, if they would've gone full comedy it would be shit, those episodes worked in the context of a serious show, and there were many serious episodes that were just as good.
>>
>>68109374
Oh, I get it. You've never actually watched the entire series.
>>
>>68109374

Completely agree with this.

Darin Morgan and Vince Gilligan episodes are the best, and the show probably could have gone on for more seasons if the mytharc didn't turn to complete shit and bog down everything else.
>>
>>68109467
Yes, I have. Back in the original run and I'm watching it all over again.
>>
>>68105502

I liked how PC culture didn't stop them from making that episode
>>
>>68109664
You watched all 202 episodes of the original run when it aired back in the 90's, (pro tip: ya didn't) and haven't finished "re" watching it in the current year yet expect people to take your half assed opinion seriously? C'mon, guy.
>>
>>68109772
they still labeled the museum exhibit as something silly i believe, wasnt it like "first amendment extremist exhibit" or something?
>>
The only decent episodes were 2 and 3 but still quite forgettable. The writing of the remaining episodes was so abysmal that I want to forget it ever happened..
>>
Only good new episode was the lizard man.
Mytharc episodes were consistently amongst the worst when the show was running, so at least they managed to keep that up.
Haven't done my annual marathon of the show yet this year, but I might skip those for once.

>>
>>68105502
It didn't fit with the times. The writers did a piss poor job. The characters became stale. The acting was wooden/forced. It was all a bit memey.

Pick 3
>>
>>68109796
Probably didn't watch all 202 episodes but I've watched the vast majority, enough to know that there were far more serious episodes than comedic ones. It's not a half assed opinion, it's an opinion from somebody who has actually watched the show and it's halfway through a rewatch now. Comedy episodes aren't more than 4 or 5 per season. Even if in later seasons they would up these amount to twice as much (which I don't remember happening), they would still be less than half a season. And they didn't have any comedy episodes up until Humbug which is episode 18 from season 2, and season 4 didn't even have a comedy episode until Small Potatoes which is episode 20.
Unless you're considering every single episode with a funny scene or dialogue to be comedy.
>>
>>68110401
Those episodes were the worst. The writing got lazy in seasons 6 and 7. Everything slid into a try-hard Twin Peaks vibe.
>>
>>68110473
twin peaks vibe was how x-files was from the very beginning
>>
>>68110473
Some of them weren't very good, some of them were. Same as the mytharc and monster of the week episodes (if we consider comedy episodes as their own thing).
>>
>>68106234
her?
>>
>>68105502

I hated that episode, but watched his tripping sequence about 5 times. If only it were framed in a better episode.
>>
I'm not saying the show was great or anything but most people aren't sexless geeks like you guys and just wanted to see Mulder and Scully together on screen again, that was really the whole point. Most people have better things to do with their time than sit around wishing they could still have serious x-files episodes. It was meant to be a parody of how gay the original series was overall and it's fucking pathetic that it makes you so mad, haha.

Yes, I know very well that most episodes were in fact non-comedic and I actually offered data to support that claim. Can you prove me wrong?
And I said I watched it back when it aired, which is true. I started watching around season 5, when I was 10 and they would show one season premiere per week while showing re-runs of earlier seasons the rest of the week, in the afternoons. I was a big X-files nerd back then and was up to date with episodes in about a year. I even went to see the movie in the opening day, I had one of those episode guides and even a handful of the comics horribly drawn by the guy who does Walking Dead now.
So, while I'm not the biggest X-files fan out there, I do know what I'm talking about.

I think that people are neglecting the fact that we're well into the information age. Any ayy lmao or conspiracy theory can be debunked with a google search. I think the writers lost touch with the cultural norms and the psychological frontiers in le current year.
