Jean Reno makes 98 very redeemable imho. Brian Cranston dying less than halfway through after becoming the most relatable character brought 14 down a notch saved only by Godzilla's end fight scenes and finisher.

that's a tough one. the fanboy retards will say 2014 because muh real godzilla but that's the only thing it really has over the 98 movie and even then i don't care for his design in 2014. 2014's characters sucked ass except for Cranston. at least Broderick wasn't boring as fuck like Johnson was. 2014 had a better score by Desplat, if only because of the opening theme. 98 had that awesome shot where he ducks under the missiles and the flatiron building gets destroyed. all in all i'd say 98 is a more memorable movie by far, while the most i can say for 2014 is it got Godzilla right. i could re watch 2014 for Serizawa's British assistant though. honestly the 98 movie is more appealing to me in a lot of ways.

Best part of 2014 was the finale but they should've had that awesomeness all the way though it. At the point that Godzilla is fighting the bad monster you show it. You don't cut to an autistic child watching a news report.
Godzilla 98 is an ok kaiju film but not a good Godzilla film. To be fair. Not many of the jap films are that good either.
