The Family Guy audience didn't like it because it wasn't le epic cutaway gags, and everybody else didn't give it a chance because they hate Family Guy.

The first season of American Dad was shit because it was pretty much Family Guy but 100% political jokes. Later episodes started to be more absurdist and character driven, and that's when it took on a personality of its own.

Venture Bros is great, but now that they're reairing the first season, it really shows how bad the newer ones are.
Brock went from being a roid raging, murdering psychopath to being a cool uncle who really isn't all that cool. The Venture brothers went from being hilariously naive to boring, awkward teenagers. Visual gags have been replaced with references to old 90s stuff like Double Dare and the Aggro Crag.
