I thought it was pretty funny, but ultimately I would interpret the movie as a post-modern interpretative horror thriller inspired by the cultural excesses of 80s culture.

Interesting factoid: did you know that in this scene they filmed it 3 times, one with the detective thinking that Bateman killed Paul Allen, one where he didn't suspect it, and another when he didn't really know? Then they spliced all the of it together to create the feeling of paranoia for the audience that Bateman was feeling.

Here's an interesting tidbit about the film: did you know in the scene in which the private detective interviews Bateman, the director filmed Dafoe's performance three times: one in which he was certain Bateman killed Paul Allen, one in which he wasn't sure, and one in which he didn't suspect Bateman? The scene is actually all three shoots intercut to make the audience paranoid and unsure about Dafoe's character, just like Bateman would have been.

TIL that In each scene with Detective Donald Kimball (Willem Dafoe), Harron asked Dafoe to portray thecharacter three different ways: 1. Kimble knew Patrick Bateman killed Paul Allen; 2. Kimball didn't know Bateman killed Allen; and 3. Kimball wasn't sure if Bateman killed Allen. Harron then edited the takes together, making it hard for theaudience to tell what Kimball thought of Bateman.

Bale delivers every line so perfectly that the funny parts get me in stitches. It's definitely one of the funniest films ever for me.

Did you know they filmed the chainsaw scene in three takes? 1. Where Bale was certain he was going to drop the chainsaw and did 2. Where Bale didn't want to drop the chainsaw but did anyway 3. Where Bale wasn't sure if he should drop the chainsaw but did anyway
They spliced the 3 scenes together to get the desired effect. Pretty cool, bros.

here's an of tidbit for you guys:
In the scene where the atm asks to be fed a cat, they filmed 3 takes. In the first he doesn't feed the cat to the ATM, in the second he does but he doesn't want to and in the third he eats the cat himself.
They cut them together to get the end effect, really quite nice.
