People generally don't run into harm's way for a laugh. Drama in action-adventure typically comes from the characters being put in harm's way and doing heroic shit. If they have to get MacGuffin from A to B and the only option is running by AT-ATs, they do it, and we get to watch it. And it's exciting.

Weekend operators love to say this, but while in reality there is a lot of evidence suggesting that serpentine doesn't make you any less (or more) likely to get shot, it does reduce the likelihood of being incapacitated by a non-trivial amount. Hits on straight runners tend to be center-mass, hits on zig-zaggers tend not to be.
