seemed like a mediocre movie cobbled together from ideas from much better movies

I've read the comics in full several times and I just watched the movie on netflix recently. The movie is an okay adaptation, but most of the changes censor what actually happens in the comics (don't want to spoil anything). the comics are way better simply due to Alan Moore being a great writer for the medium.

my opinion is about the same for watchmen, but I personally like v for vendetta more.

It had a nice message ( esp. in my country when government fucked us sideways) but after it got popular on reddit/other social media it lost its touch. I'll have to check the comics as the other anon recommended

Look how Orwellian it is though.

Lost some of the edge from the comic, especially the happy ending which is much more ambiguous originally. I think the comic has better longevity, since the theme of the trade-off between order and freedom is timeless, though it's still very much a product of the 80s
