My problem is they're advertising it like an adult movie when we all know it will be a kids movie, the script will be shit and this protagonist will be boring and one-dimensional, they will cash in on old plot elements wherever possible.

I just want to know when people are going to realize that these movies are more like remakes of the original trilogy than they are sequels. The prequels at least presented us with a different scenario: the good guys being in power while the dark forces secretly tear down the republic. These new movies are all just >muh underdogs. They think just throwing in darth Vader or Han Solo is enough to make it worth while to make an entire movie.
The irony is that many people tell themselves Star Wars is a prime candidate for remake because people love the original movies. Of course, much of the love for the originals comes from the special effects that were years ahead of their time and which still hold up excellently. Think about it: that makes Star Wars a terrible candidate for expansion. The only reason to remake a film is if the tone is going to change or technology has improved since the first release. That's why casino royale is so fucking good. It's essentially the same James Bond but in a much more adult light. A more serious movie. I didn't think the other three Craig bonds were good, but at least they did something new. When we take these considerations together, it's clear that Star Wars remakes will probably always be shit because 1) they won't make an adult movie and 2) they can't really improve THAT MUCH on the special effects.

Tfa is another underdog movie where some random person realizes she can use the force. Rogue one, meanwhile, is something we've seen before.
