You're right, they talk about Kategatt as if its a town but in reality its the ocean area that separates Denmark and Sweden.
I assume in the show its Swedish due to its location showing a fjord with mountains around it, there are places like that on the Swedish side of Kategatt, but the Danish side is as flat as a coin, infact Denmark is one of the lowest and flattest countries in the world.
