Also, to answer you question the saber was originally going to be the MacGuffin. It was going to be Rey and Luke tracking it down while have a wacky space adventure. They shifted the MacGuffin to Luke because they thought he stole every scene. That would have been bad for establishing new characters. Question, how the fuck is Luke's original blue lightsaber in this movie? It fell down into the depths of Cloud City and for all we know probably fell into the gas planet of Bespin after that.
