Jimmy wound up taking an active part in a plan that almost killed a kid, facilitated Walt's rise to power, and was a participant in all the death and destruction that came with it (Jesse's old girlfriend getting her head blown off by Nazi's in the same house as the kid Walt poisoned comes to mind). I know he wasn't directly involved, but that's the whole idea of his character. His willingness to make money/hustle people opens doors for worse people to go through.
I like the character, and I think Jimmy is probably genuinely a good guy, but Chuck could not be more right about the "chimp with a machine gun" bit.

walter is a likeable character who we're supposed to side against.
I've noticed this huge divide that this show created among people by
1. telling the narrative through walt's perspective with him starting out weak and lashing out with "fuck the world" mentality. this makes us like him and automatically side with him. he's intelligent,clever and him getting OUT of situations is gratifying because we imagine ourselves in them and want him to escape.
2. He gradually becomes more and more evil and now we see a few jumping ship. walter is not a decent man. some people even hate his guts. but there's still a majority that due to the show's narrative through walter's eyes sees him as a protagonist. even when he turned full evil, every time walter was in a sticky situation i wanted him to escape out of it because i wanted to see how he would do it. maybe if brba was shown through jesse's eyes I'd hate walter's guts a thousand times more.
By the end i'm left completely conflicted and torn. The heart is with jesse but I still want to see walter set things right and earn some redemption.
Maybe this is why the show is so popular. IT really fucks and plays around with your conscience

I liked Walt, but I saw from season three that he wasn't the protagonist. Hank was the hero, Jesse was the protagonist, and Walt was the villain.
Hank, despite being comical, was not only extremely competent at his job, but we saw him sacrifice a lot due to Walt's actions. Even when he didn't realize it, he was saving Walt from a ridiculous amount of trouble regularly. When Gus had the rest of the police pushed off of his back, Hank represented the tenacity and morality of the human spirit. So when it came down to the truth, Hank showed the truest of his colors: He was going to take down Heisenberg no matter what, because that wasn't the Walt he cared about.
Jesse, though, was the protagonist. He wasn't necessarily a hero or even a good person, but he was human. He had morals that he stuck to, and even when things were at its worst, he was fighting out of situations created by Walt. Despite his crimes, he had limits and guilt. My biggest complaint about season 5 is I think the second half squandered him too much. His story felt almost stunted by his position with the neo nazis.

It's not that we see things from his perspective, it's that we understand his motive.
We not only understand why he makes a choice, but what lead him to think in the way that dictates how he will make decisions. We can empathize with Walt, even if we don't sympathize with him, especially later on.
Compare that to skylar. We often see things from her perspective, but we don't understand her. We don't really understand why she fucks ted because we don't understand why she thinks the way she does,
