Ripley's story was DONE after Aliens. All you need in this series is a xenomorph and a strong female protag. Ripley herself is incidental, and making her the protagonist long after her arc's expiration date was to the detriment of the series.

That movie is probably not happening, or at least soon. They're restarting Prometheus again by making a trilogy of movies that will follow it with a new lead. Blomkamp's movie got indefinitely delayed.
