He gets a bit of a pass because his action scenes are in a metal. usually CGI'd robot suit, so physicality isn't major. It's one of the reasons Iron Man 3 sucked, because they tried to make him an action star outside the suit. Strange doesn't need to be muscly, but he does need to be physically imposing in some ways, and being a manlet isn't a great start.

Lots of parts sucked. For one thing, the way his trauma was handled over the course of the movie. He just sort of seems to get over it. The reveal of Trevor Slattery is poorly set up dramatically too. They build up to it, and it's not like an "Oh shit!" moment, he just sort of waddles out of the bathroom talking in an English accent, and it gets revealed over the course of a comedic conversation that he's not a double, he's a drug-addict actor set up to cover for Killian's shitty science causing people to blow up. That's got to be the lamest justification for a twist ever. Killian himself is even worse. He's like 3-5 different cliches rolled into one, such as the nerd spurned by the hero turning evil, the guy who gives himself powers going crazy from them, the rich asshole who wants to mastermind a situation for him to profit, and the creep who kidnaps the hero's girlfriend because he has the hots for her. The jokes throughout the movie aren't much better. They rely way too much on physical comedy, which I think is usually out of place and distracting in a superhero movie, even putting a Mark 42 failing joke between the part where Pepper supposedly dies, and the time she's revealed to be still alive. As if the movie doesn't care if you take its plot developments seriously or not.
And as for a "superhero flick" happening out of nowhere, that gives the ending too much credit. Superhero flicks often have a hero throw down with the villain with their powers for the final battle. That was a CGI Michael-Bay-style explosion fest, with Tony jumping in and out of suits as they fell apart like they were made of styrofoam. What a godawful movie.
