A completely faithful SotC adaptation would be a lot of pretty scenery, 4-5 fight scenes (since you couldn't even fit all the colossi in the film), a sudden plot twist and then it ends.
A more likely SotC adaptation would go deeper into the backstories of the characters. Probably cut back and forth between wanderer, his pursuers and his hometown and probably give Wanderer a wacky sidekick or some shit. The game is still better in both scenarios, just let it be.

That's what I was thinking too. It had too many small stories so you would have to butcher them down to 15-20 minutes, but it doesn't give time to introduce characters properly.
A mini-series with one episode per story (2-3 for the last one since it's longer) would be perfect.

the plot is not what makes 40k good, it's the unified aesthetic and theme of each faction

If you're gonna make a 40k movie imo you need to go all out Paul Verhoeven ala Starship Troopers, heavy cynicism and a big wink to modern society on how the government and media rile up people for a certain cause to go to war. Because American media nowadays isn't normal, it makes people crazy letting them believes threats are everywhere and making things seem far worse than they are. Meanwhile draining the economy while kids from low income households go to war. This grim mirror of society could very well be reflected in a 40k storyline where it goes on and simply focusses on a few indivuals telling a story in a much bigger universe and story that goes on around them.

I always found his action directing pretty impressive, like in 300, Sucker Punch and BvS. He does it a lot better than most mid-tier directors at least.
And what? Do you think Deus Ex is realistic? The main character gets so brutally beaten to a pulp that his arms, legs and most of his torso have to be replaced with prosthetics and the AFTER that, they allow him to physically function better than normal humans? And then fight enemies whose arms can transform into weapons? I appreciate your optimism but modern day prosthesis is nowhere near that advanced yet.
