Yeah I just watched HHH's A time to live, A time to die (had seen the Assassin before) and kind of fell in love with his style.

I'll watch some of his shit tonight - but on my TV since there are no theaters here that'd show class stuff like this.

I kind of hate missing out on 4K showing of Knight of Cups.

What's your account fellow HHHfan?

what did you think of Chungking & ITMFL? personally, I hated CE but thought ITMFL pretty good. Days of Bein Wild is pretty good, too. I suppose ITMFL is the "spiritual sequel" to it, too.

>>67851157
what was it that made you preffer CE over ITMFL?
>>
>>67851849
heh im too sentimental to go with in the mood and thats why i dug ce more. happy endings and all that shit.

both beautifully shot, acted and well written, the development of characters/narrative was.more ambitious in in the mood, ce had kind of silly edge to it overall and just wanted to be more simple i guess and its ending wins my heart over.
>>
>>67851955
definitely understandable. I just find CE to be one of the most frustrating films I've experienced simply because the first half is so incredibly good and the second is such an obnoxious quirk-fest. I understand I'm in the minority here, however, so w/e.

Haha, I guess the second half gets bit more quirky with all the weird behavior from Faye with all the house things, but the cat and mouse play was entertaining and both actors performed really fucking well (not that they didn't in In the Mood, just as good if not better) but the tone of CE just gets me going with it far easier.

They were my first WKW films so I haven't seen them more than once nor have I seen more from WKW so my opinion will probs. adjust

I agree. Most people feel the opposite but I love the first half, it treats lovesickness with the appropriate amount of humor and the neo-noir plot is a lot of fun. The second half hits a rut with the pixie girl doing the same thing over and over

>>
>>67864213
Haven't seen O sangue, but Ossos and Horse Money are pretty fictional-feeling as well. It sounds like Vanda and Youth are the two stylistic outliers in his work, but I haven't heard much about Casa de Lava or its style.

Nah, I've only seen Allonsanfan, which was great. I've been meaning to check out more of their stuff out and just stumbled upon the Arrow box on amazon today. I didn't even know it was going to be released. Pretty excited right now, but I'm not going to get it until the end of June at the earliest.
>>
>>67864295
I haven't seen Casa de Lava but I heard it's based off Jacques Tourneur's I Walked With a Zombie so I imagine it's pretty far from Colossal Youth
>>
>>67864295
>>67864213
>>67864295

For me, O sangue is probably the biggest anomaly in his work... Casa is his one and only 'landscape film' (Costa's words), edging closer to Ossos but still far away in its treatment of actors, reality, time. It levels out around the middle, then Horse Money is again a stylistic and narrative mutation.

Do you not rename all your images to 'image.jpg' to fuck with people? This is a well known behavior (read 'meme') on 4chan.

Lads, why did Zootopia have so many sex jokes? Why was the ending so rushed? Why did it feel as though a bunch of scenes were cut with all th ose time jumps? Why did only one of Judy's siblings keep running after the train at the start? Was this her favorite sibling? Why did this seemingly important sibling have so few lines and only one appearance? Why is there so much unnecessary referential humor? I enjoyed the movie, but I had problems with it after thinking about it for a few hours.

I think a lot of reviewers actually dislike four-and-a-half, if you check their statistics. Almost always full four and full five seem to be more used.

You made a major mistake with this list by putting Snyder at level 1. While his films have bad narratives, he is one of the greatest technical filmmakers alive. This also applies to Michael Bay and Kurowasa.

Your list makes the mistake of associating those that use nothing but the visual aspect of a movie as a 'higher tier' when half of the people in your 'higher tier' completely disregard other aspects of a movie such as sound, editing and production design. Look at Michael Snow for example, one of his movies consists of him recording a session using the Spritz app at a slow speed. It's nothing more than postmodern shitstink.

And fucking Warhol for Christsake, what were you thinking? Do you also listen to fucking Fripp and Eno? You mediocre fucking shitstain.

I'm fairly sure that you are simply trying to create a meme with this list, and likely haven't actually seen the work of most of the people on it as I have, but just in case there is anyone who actually thinks that list is in anyway accurate, you are a pretentious schmuck contrarian cuntbag who thinks that because something is obscure or hard to access it makes it better. It does not. And to anyone who does actually think that, please know that you are more annoying than Nolan fans on IMDB.

All in all I'm not really surprised that on a board with an average IQ of slightly more than average would believe a list such as this. It's common for for people in such a position to be elitist despite knowing fuck all about much of anything.
>>
>>67877416
I don't get what point you're trying to make
>>
>>67877432
Also I forgot to add a nice little recommendation for you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fw4gYWkXgo

Mccarthy's entire catalogue is a good example of why your list is absurdly shit. The man may be a parody of himself but he goes far enough to show that the works of the names in the 'higher tiers' of your list are nothing more than cumridden rags of pissoil.

Neither can I... it's pretty late here. But I will say that less than a 1000 movies isn't that much. And also: is two and a half stars good or bad? Did you like Army of Darkness or not? Should it get an even worse score...? And what is the dinosaur reference, etc. I dunno.
>>
>>67877568
hahaha good meme friend.

Go fuck yourself you utter shitcunt.

Who the fuck are you quoting? Seriously, the misuse of this function is fucking unbelievable.

How about next time, before you decide to post such a low effort shit-infested reply, you take a good look in the mirror, ask yourself what your parents would think, and then sit back down and apologize for being such a fucking pissant.

I use the like function to signify if I like the film or not. For instance, Clueless is a classic 90s flick but I also rated it lower. The ratings are based on aspects of film at large - strength of plot, production value, editing quality, cinematography, the list goes on.

It's possible to enjoy the fugg out of films that aren't the most well made, or the strongest example of the medium.
>>
>>67878077
haha salt?

That's the first thing you think of?

lmao.

This simply leads me to believe you are quite the fat cunt. I mean, the first thing on your mind is something associated with food.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you're one of those skinny little autistic neet cunts that only eat fucking chips, nuggets and noodles covered in salt.

Oh would you look at that, the same sentence I used beforehand also applies to your response. Either you didn't read it or you simply didn't comprehend it, you low effort shitposter.

Thank god your kind are not common on my main boards. What a bunch of total fucking morons. Fresh off the boat, from reddit, kid? heh I remember when I was just like you. Braindead. Lemme give you a tip so you can make it in this cyber sanctuary: never make jokes like that. You got no reputation here, you got no name, you got jackshit here. It's survival of the fittest and you ain't gonna survive long on 4chan by saying stupid jokes that your little hugbox cuntsucking reddit friends would upboat. None of that here. You don't upboat. You don't downboat. This ain't reddit, kid. This is 4chan. We have REAL intellectual discussion, something I don't think you're all that familiar with. You don't like it, you can hit the bricks on over to imgur, you daily show watching son of a bitch. I hope you don't tho. I hope you stay here and learn our ways. Things are different here, unlike any other place that the light of internet pop culture reaches. You can be anything here. Me ? heh, I'm a judge.. this place.... this place has a lot to offer... heh you'll see, kid . . . that is if you can handle it...
>>
>>67878546
God, you really did miss the point of the post didn't you?

You truly do not comprehend a word I was trying to say did you?

It is not a defense of 'capeshit' it was a quick criticism of pretentious contrarians and postmodern schlock.

Obviously you fail to distinguish the difference between these two things. Perhaps after you've aged a bit and stop regurgitating the opinions and behaviors of others, you'll be able to understand.
>>
>>67878274
Hmm, so that's how it goes. Personally I don't use "Likes" at all, because their meaning isn't very clear. I think they should only be used by lazy normies, who don't want to make proper reviews. They only need to mark down the movies they liked (to whatever extend).

To make matters worse, it's not clear how LB treats the "Likes", either. If you list movies by their scores, the list starts with (plain) "Likes", then continues to ½ stars and goes up from there. So in a way, "Like" is like the WORST score. (I think LB should default "Likes" to, say, 3-star reviews, or something.)

I think you are in the wrong thread, bro.

But it's funny, I feel the complete opposite about shows and movies: TV-shows always turn out to be overhyped and boring. Not to mention it takes ages to watch even a single season of anything. Movies on the other hand rarely completely disappoint.
