I felt the laid back attitude. I didn't like it too much. I felt Negan was more energetic and immature in the comic. JDM makes him look too serious and dark. They should have had less roadblocks and more Neegan. They cut dialogue out about him saying he couldn't kill a minority because he didn't want to see racist, and they could have used to the extra time to properly kill of the cast member or even hack off Rick's hand.

I was fucking terrified during that entire final scene. I think people complaining that there wasn't a sufficient payoff are latching onto the tangibility of someone actually dying and not realizing that the point of the entire episode was to show the balance that the Saviors have struck between absolute unpredictability (eenie meenie) and cold, calculated, strategic genius.

I really liked The Governor's actor from Seasons 3 and 4. I know he was unstable and went apeshit on his own troops, but he was a very dangerous foe. He was playing up the facade of decent man in charge of his community while simultaneously being nuts.
Morgan's Neegan is one crafty bastard however. He literally ran circles around Rick's group and was well organized. I wish we could've seen The Governor and him interact.

Terminus and The Wolves didn't really have much personality. The Atlanta cops were interesting and I actually wished the hospital and everyone else there joined Rick's group.
I'm actually looking forward to Fear the Walking Dead now because there's bound to be other wars and stories from survivors in other parts of the country. Like Mad Max-style skirmishes in the Southwest between cattle ranchers, Mexican cartels, Texas Rangers, etc.

It pisses me off that a lot of the strong guys that Rick's group had like Oscar and Tyreese died.
Imagine if Season 1's cast hadn't died which includes the Hispanic dudes at the nursing home, Oscar and Axle, all the good people from Woodbury, the couple that Rick and Carol encountered before the Governor's attack, the victims of the Terminus cannibals, the Atlanta hospital, Noah's community, and the Alexandrians that died. That's a sizable group of community that could fight, work, stay behind and watch the sick, young, and old.
Didn't read a lot of posts, but they did not do Negan justice. Tv Negan is not as charismatic and didn't walk around with essentially his Dickinson out for everyone to see. Negan is a unique man, he puts on a show that he loves running. Tv Negan was too calm and although he had obvious control of the situation, he just didn't deliver a Negan standard performance. He also failed to mention Lucille's horniness in anyway.
I'm not mad that he isn't a carbon comic copy because none of them really are at this point (which I enjoy a lot). The Rick's are different and so is almost everyone else in more than a few ways. I am upset though because they built up such a similar circumstance and tried for the same outcome (the end of the Something to Fear arc). Liked the episode but I truly feel I could make a better Negan than what I was presented.

I see this as a performance that's visually similar to the source material and lines but where the actor puts a unique spin on it to make it memorable, kinda like hardy's accent as bane oh bernthal as the punisher. They make it their own because the original is so distinguishable in itself or beloved by the fans they know that it is near impossible to give it a precise replication so there is a twist put on it. That being said JDM is the best actor since David Morrissey to be on the show. The suspense and buildup to his introduction was solid and all of his lines were delivered fantastically. I find it funny that some of you guys still cling so strongly to the comics and then call the show garbage when it's not a duplicate. It's cable TV, he can't say fuck every other word and honestly I'm glad because it means the writers can't be lazy when writing his dialogue and are forced to be creative. This has worked in the shows favor before (the comic governor is one of the most over the top comic villains ever). I think JDM will really take to this role and can't wait to see some real fighting between him and Rick.

It's Sasha. That's it. Now there are a few reasons for this:
1. For a while know the writing team has been trying to steer away from the comics and avoid being too predictable. This is a nice chance since literally no one could've guessed it as everybody is expeting Glenn to die.
2. Hard truth, but she is black and a woman. This sets up Negan as a hateable and possibly misogynistic figure with no mercy or moral code.
3. Abraham is the next big player. He has been set up for a while now and the writers intend to take his character even further and make him one of the most valuable protagonists. Carl's role as the sucessor? Yeah, that's going to Abraham. After Rick, he is the one we believe has what it takes to fill that position.

I can't accept that the writers are in the same position we are. Especially when the show comes back in what, 6 months? I admit, I don't know what goes into making a TV show or how long the process is but I'd imagine they're already writing it right now.
Think about it. The scripts have to be written, then rewritten, then edited, then possibly rewritten again. All before filming takes place. That's a lot of work to put in in 6 months. They don't just write and film them as they go (although sometimes it certainly feels that way).
I'm not defending the quality of the show, certainly it was better when Darabont was the show runner. Gimple turned it into a cheap novelty. Sure, Darabont had some shit episodes but he knew what he was doing (for the most part).

Negan was wonderful and all that build-up for the final scene really added the tension the bat beatings should have paid off on. But then:

Negan seems like a good guy to me. You can't let Rick's group off scott free for all the shit they've done, so you kill one of them in a theatrical manner to teach a lesson, then they get to go on living the rest of their lives. They'll be giving Negan half their shit from then on, but that in turn helps protect them in the future because they have the Negan army at their disposal when another bad situation comes to their door.

I think they have a Netflix version with preserved dialog from the comic. It felt like each shot of Negan that he was supposed to say FUCK in, they lingered in the shot a little too long which made his whole scene feel horribly paced. If he is saying fuck every three words like the comic, you can imagine the pacing of his dialog speeding up.
