Film critics exist to be useful to us. We find a film critic or two that we share a lot of opinions with, we then can trust that the movies they like will often be the ones we like. We know it's not 100% reliable and we will make decisions on an individual film basis about movies that we're interested in regardless of their thoughts. They spend a lot more time watching movies then most of us are able to as they are paid to do it so it is what occupies their days. They help us avoid things that there is a good chance we won't like.
I don't see there being any rational argument against this. And no, saying things like "I'm a big boy, don't need nobody" is not an argument, it's generally a preemptive defense against any criticism of one's taste.
