I also wonder whether the future of CGI movies is creating mid-budget movie and reusing the preproduction and assets for both a game and the movie. You could probably save money on production and marketing that way.

WoW is by far the most popular MMO and Hearthstone is the most popular card game that's also huge on mobile. Warcraft used to be one of the most popular RTS and DOTA started as a WC3 mod.

If you haven't played any of these games then you are not a gamer.

The Avatar thingys really benefited from having a big bold over-the-top design that was so distinct that it helped sketch over the CGI modelling flaws. Being bold and very fake is way better than being a bit fake because it's harder to compare with your frame of reference.

Also, the lighting on the Orcs looks way worse than anything on Avatar. It looks like a videogame.

It's kind of interesting that I can look at that and instantly see its CGI. The most obvious bits are all the spikes/claws looking fake as shit and metallic reflections.

What's also glaring is that not everywhere is the same quality and some areas are too sharp, so the image composition looks off, like there are multiple areas that are in focus and out of focus.

I'd find it massive off-putting. That's the problem - as you get more realistic, the fake looking bits look faker.

Ouch. Metzen is counting on this flick to support his coke habit and endless string of high-end escorts catering to corruption fetishes.

at least you got trips though. i liked his previous movies, but too much of this looks like cgi garbage. when will people learn cgi is best used to accent stuff, not replace stuff

The budget is supposedly only like $90 million. I don't think it's going to be a huge hit in America, but it will make a ton in international markets that seem to love these incredibly artificial fantasy movies.
>>
>>67781955
Did Gods of Egypt turn a profit internationally?
>>
What blizzard should have done is committed their cinematic team to a 2 hour movie instead of this live action crap, and I will maintain that until the movie is released and likely well after
>>
>>67781955
90 mill is actually amazing considering the heavy use of cgi which sometimes looks great. Image if they had a full triple A budget. Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne please

i dont want a age of sigmar movie, and GW hates whf for some reason. the total war game looks fun though

that would cost half a billion dollars instead of 90 million. those cinematics blizz makes are very expensive for how short they are

It seems that the story will be mostly an adaptation of WC1 with a much bigger role for the Frostwolf clan and Durotan. In the games you basically don't know about them until Thrall shows up in WC3 while in the movie they're going to playing up this conflict between the demon corrupted orcs and the shamanistic orcs.

There are also some other departures from the game story but the one with Durotan is the biggest.

Your Doomsday doesn't look as retarded as the orc, senpai.

The main problem of this flick is the fact human characters look strange when next to CGI creatures. The same shit happened to the SW prequels.

And my personal struggle with it is the fact they didn't bother with Garona at all - she looks like a human woman with green dye all over her and 2 fangs added it just because.

People always say this, but I have doubts. First, look at Avatar. It was almost full CG. Second, it would be more than just Blizzard's likely small cinematics team. Third, it would also have an incentive to be more efficient than blowing its load on a expansion release cinematic.

I think a full CG Warcraft movie from Blizzard would definitely be possible.

>>
>>67778350

it's going to bomb. big time. no one outside fringe communities like 4chan, and gamers, is excited about Warcraft. superheros can bank because their brand. adults will tag along with their kids to watch a Batman movie b/c they know who Batman and Superman is. there's always an exception, like Guardians, but this film looks like it'll fail b/c it feels like a dumb retread of Lord of the Rings.
>>
>>67781820
Why aren't the Warcraft Orcs quadrupeds?
>>
>>67781799
you see a fucking ORG that's clearly not human in makeup and can instantly tell that it's CGI? No fucking way
opinion discarded
also compare that to fucking avatar, I know they had the "weird, clearly not human-like skin having alien" benefit in a sense that your brian doesn't have any idea how it should look like but still
>>
>>67782852
it's true desu

they're really releasing this movie 10 years too late

i used to be a huge warcraft/wow fan and i really don't think this move will do well
i genuinely don't think anyone gives a shit about it

toys r us is scared of stocking warcraft toys even
every one i've been in has a few hidden away in a corner of the video games section

there's like no hype surrounding this movie
>>
>>67782256
but the Warlords of Draeneor cinematic orcs for example looked like total shit compared to what ILM did, honestly, look at it again and take off your pink nostalgia glasses
in addition they only did 2 of them, rest was hidden in shadows for a good reason
>>
>>67778350
Why don't they just do a full CGI movie? Literally everything but like 2 human actors are CGI.

as a 3D artist I can't help but laugh at people claiming that light is off in scenes like that, clearly not knowing how light simulation works in those cases and that it's actually basically perfect (and not too perfect like hair and sin sometimes either)

which is sad because it may even be pretty good. i have no desire to watch it on the big screen unless it gets really good reviews or i'm really bored one day. while it isn't exactly the case, the market seems oversaturated with superhero, fantasy, and comic book films overall. i think everyone and their mother was surprised Deadpool did as well as it did. Warcraft may end up being the sacrificial goat and bomb at the US box office.

>>
>>67783097
as a warcraft fan I would be really disappointed if they did that
Tbh I'm disapointed that didn't go for more makeup suff, humans HAD to be real, no other option for me, orcs had to be CGI for sure, but Dwarfs or Elves could work as practical make up effects for the most part, Draenei too perhabs
I however cant imagine makeup trolls (maybe to small extent but not really), taurens, undeads (for the most part, some zombies could work), demons (some exceptions maybe), goblins, worgens, nagas etc. I guess gnomes could work, centaurs as half cgi-half real actors
>>
>>67783394
I really hope we get to have sequels to see all that

I'm surprised they went for CGI elves and dwarfs to be honest, especially since Garona is played by human, I hope it doesn't ruin the film

Hobbit/LotR did them properly though, I can imagine that this level of prosthetic is costly and hard to put on/manufacture but it can work even with warcraft style I think

Well, the movie is about the first war against Azeroth so there really shouldn't be any elves and dwarves to begin with
