The first two season of The Simpsons really stand out from the rest of the series. There's a a sort of Charlie Brown-esque innocence to them. I also like the fact that Homer isn't as stupid as they would later write him.

Those early seasons were really fucking well written and yes , they were Schultz-esque but with no innocence, with biting subversive satire that cut to the core of uncomfortable truths and human emotions. Conceptually. Bart and lisa aren't as fleshed out. Homer is not as funny. Marge doesn't even have her trademark grunt. Marge's mom is a huge bitch, there's lots of one-off characters like the babysitter, the transfer student.
They just weren't SET IN SPRINGFIELD for reals. Except the iconic krusty going to jail episode, i can't recall many episodes about, say, skinner, burns, grampa.

The early years had all of the meat, character development, sweet moments, things that actually made you go "I know that feel!" After season 2 they focused more on broad comedy and zaniness, which is great, but I think the early seasons have so much more heart.

1-2 are great, the animation had a more cartoony and fun vibe to it, and it had a lot of heart. That being said, I do think 3-9 are better, I find them to be infinitely more rewatchable
The peak of the series ends at the episode of when the 'real' Seymour Skinner comes back in Season 7. Then it's all slowly downhill, and dies by Season 10 I guess.
