So could Elrond basically 1v1 every other living creature on Middle Earth except Sauron and Gandalf 2.0?

Ah, Tom Bombadil. The Jar Jar Binks of Star Wars.
>>
In the movie verse no one actually shows any sort of actual power. Sauron gets his fingers cut off like a bitch, Gandalf just uses his sword or staff as a hitting stick, Galadrial just ghost astral projects, Elrond does nothing, and Saruman makes mountains fall I guess. Men are still best I guess.

kek. ban these faggots
>>
>>67680633
Galadriel would fuck him up easy.
>>
>>67680812
read the books you pleb
Tom could wreck everyones ass including sauron and his all mordor. He was god level powerful, he just didn't gave a single fuck about little man (and other races) wars
>>
he's pretty unremarkable in the opening battle though

I'm sure he has 2000 years to level up but you can say that about all the elves
>>
Typical answer - Yeah probably.
Actual answer - No. Elrond has lost the will to fight on the level he did with Gil-Gilad, he has accepted he is past his prime, that all elves are. He just wouldn't show up to the fight. You'd have to go after his daughter to really make him feel anything needed to actually fight anyone.
>>
The question you are really asking is:

If Elrond stole from Farmer Maggot's crop, would Elrond be forced to flee?
>>
>>67680893
no, I think Jar Jar Binks is the Jar Jar Binks of Star Wars
>>
>>67680941
In the LOTR universe there are 5 kinds of people: No powers, Hero powers, Magic powers, Overpowered and Hilariously Godly Overpowered.
And then there's tom bombadil, who could have just walked(danced) into mordor, punch sauron in the face(eye), kick melkor in the nuts, set everything right, and be back before lunch time all while wearing the ring as a piercing on his dick.
If only he gave a fuck.
>>

Jar Jar Binks is the Jar Jar Binks of Star Wars you idiot.
>>

no, he's the Jar Jar Binks of Narnia.
>>
>>67680908
Also the strongest balrog of all time gets headbutted by an elf and dies
>>
>>67680941
I read the books and it was never stated that he was that strong, Bombadil only has power in the forest.
>>
well, I doubt he could beat legolas, that guy shot multiple orcs while sliding down stairs with a shield like a skateboard. A SKATEBOARD
think about it.

I've always assumed posts about Tom Bombadil were trolls. Gandalf literally explains him and his powers in Fellowship.
>>
Is it ever explained why Gandalf fucking left Frodo for like 6 months to go research in Gondor when he could have just reflexively assumed it was the One Ring and sent Frodo on his way?
>>
>>67681725
>6 months

Retard.
>>
>>67681725
Gandalf knew very little of ring-lore, and he would have to have been very paranoid to believe it was the One Ring after thousands of years.
>>
there was a guy in my class in middle school that played alot of The Battle for Middle-earth II

My school was in the country and my class had a long walk after lunch every day, this guy danced around like tom bombadil does in the game every day and pretended to blast stuff away and shit

New meme lads
>>
>>67682088
No. The ring and its story and been lost to history. There was no reason to suspect bilbo's ring was anything other than an ordinary magic ring.
>>
>>67680633
Not Isildur lmao
>>
>>67682312
fucking lmao
>>
>>67682221

>an ordinary magic ring

no such thing

gandalf says that himself

he surely suspected something but he had to be 100% sure before he did anything
>>
If Bilbo never found the ring, how would that have affected world politics? Sauron would still in 70 years amass a huge army and almost wipe out the world of Men. Wouldn't he prefer for the ring not to be found, for it to stay where it is, and he can spend eternity scouring Middle Earth for it after he rules it?
>>
>>67682361
>gandalf says that himself

No he didn't.
>>
>>67682361
>but he had to be 100% sure before he did anything

Why? How much would it fucking hurt to send Frodo to Rivendell just in case?
>>
>>67682405
Because at the time he didn't know that Sauron knew the ring was in the shire, so the ring would have been safe there.
>>
>>67682491
And it wouldn't have been safe in Rivendell?
>>
>>67682569

why would you move it to rivendell when its already safe where it is for the time being

the shire is the last place sauron would expect the ring to turn up, hes barely aware it exists
>>
>>67682569
Why go to rivendell if it's safe in the shire?
>>
>>67681620
No it isn't. In the book it's Glorfindal.
>>
>>67681481
Fuckin This !!

Once his powers were greater when the Forest was connected with the black forrest and Lorien.

Now his domain is only the little forrest.
>>
Glorfindal is the only thing which can 1v1 anything in the setting. He is the only being that makes the Ring Wraiths scared.

He's off doing random shit, I forget what exactly. The whole story is about some weak ass bitches who aren't special but thrust into something by chance succeeding, not the super duper powerful beings.
>>
>>67682709
No it's Elrond, with Gandalf.
>>
You fags don't understand why Gandalf want to destroy the Ring : to neutralize Sauron, because he is near-ready to steamroll everybody on Middle Earth.
>>
>>67682809

No, what's stupid is that you put your entire power and life force into a ring that can be destroyed.
>>
>>67682783
No, it was Glorfindal, stupid.
>>
>>67682809

wow really? i thought it was because gandalf just hated round objects. thanks for opening my eyes up on that one
>>
>>67682569
the ring is pretty much alive,it would attract an elf,it would corrupt him and middle earth would be fucked.
>>
>>67682887

It's not stupid when it's literally the only way to become almost omnipotent.
>>
>>67680908
There was no time since they had to show some Arwen/Aragorn romance or some Gimli/Legolas meme every five fucking minutes.
>>
>>67682894
>>67682709

Oh my god, you faggots don't know ANYTHING about LOTR.

>`Who made the flood?' asked Frodo.
>'Elrond commanded it,' answered Gandalf. `The river of this valley is under his power, and it will rise in anger when he has great need to bar the Ford. As soon as the captain of the Ringwraiths rode into the water the flood was released. If I may say so, I added a few touches of my own: you may not have noticed, but some of the waves took the form of great white horses with shining white riders; and there were many rolling and grinding boulders. For a moment I was afraid that we had let loose too fierce a wrath, and the flood would get out of hand and wash you all away. There is great vigour in the waters that come down from the snows of the Misty Mountains.'

Fucking idiots.
>>
Why didn't they fucking take Glorfindel with them in the fellowship? Even if it was a mission of secrecy he could have at least accompanied them a fair ways
>>
Melkor is the equivalent of Michael Scott in improv class, ruining a bit bit by pretending to shoot everyone in character.

I would have liked to see a version with these changes:
> boromir doesnt die
> Glorfindel joins the fellowship

It would just have been two books instead of one, because it would have been Aragon, Boromir and Glorfindel fucking everyones shit.

My favorite moments from the first book is Aragon and Boromir wrecking shit, I was so sad when I got to the part where he died ;_;7
>>

Also, stayed rekt.

>>
>>67680893
10/10
>>
>>67682783
Confirmed to be Glorfindal
>>
>>67683049
When the Riders approached closer, Glorfindel put Frodo on his white horse, Asfaloth, and bade the horse to take Frodo to safety. However, when Frodo turned back to defy the Riders, Glorfindel used his powers to smite the Riders with the waters of the river.[11] He later led the injured Frodo and the rest of the company safely to Rivendell.
>>
>>67682377
Sauron transferred a great deal of his original power into the ring. Of course he wanted it back, it's implied he would practically unstoppable with it. The whole idea of the ring of power was that he would control all over rings.
>>
>>67683607
But Gandalf states he and Elrond had a hand in it? Maybe it was all three then?
>>
>>67683627
He was already unstoppable due to low Gondorian birth rates
>>
>>67683667
Either way hackson cuckled us all with arwen
>>
>>67683722
Yeah, but he still treasured the ring and it's easy to understand he wanted it back. Also, if someone powerful enough, like Galadriel or Gandalf, chose to use it, Sauron himself might be destroyed
>>
>>67683734
ah yes. I remember sperging out like a fedora wearing neckbeard when the movies were released, but still found them enjoyable and watched all three a billion times.

A few weeks ago i decided to rewatch all three movies, extended, one each day. They have aged really well and I enjoyed them even more now, owing to the fact that the Hobbit movies was atrocious pieces of shit barely resembling the books. In that regard the original Lotr movies is a success.

what did he mean by this?
>>

Tom was like the first living being in Middle Earth, he's got to be ~6000 years old or something. He also talked to trees so go figure.

You do realize that "magic" Middle-Earth is incredibly rare, very low-key, and highly situational? This is not some fucking AD&D where magic-users are dime a dozen and as they progress in levels become walking artillery batteries who can #rekt entire armies by themselves?

Elrond isn't a particularly good warrior. At least, he is never mentionned as so. He's a loremaster. Isildur would have rekt his shit, had he tried to push him into the fiery chasms of Mt. Doom.

In any Third Age confrontation to the death, and with all means allowed, it goes something like this :

Sauron > Durin's Bane > Saruman > Gandalf > Witch King of Angmar > Glorfindel > Aragorn > Elrond's sons > Elrond
>>
>>67685689
Didn't Gandalf literally defeat Durin's Bane?
>>
>>67685734
Yes, and that's why it was quite a big deal. The Istari are maiar like Sauron and Durin's Bane, but they are limited in their powers and even in the knowledge of their own nature, in their memory, etc. Sauron and the Balrog are free from these restraints. They are fully aware of who they are, of the world, of what they can do.

Gandalf defeating Durin's Bane shows Gandalf courage and blind resilience against adversity, values he advocates for several times in the books.

I got that messed up, pretty sure Glorfindel would rek the lord of Angmar.
>>
>>67685734

he does yeah

glorfindel also killed a balrog
