Sci-Fi books have frequently been about taking one technological idea to its extreme, it's just the tv extension of that existing culture tßh. Reminds me of Asimov short stories quite a lot in that respect.

Asimov is almost always pro-technology though, and is a lot less ham fisted in his approach. It's what made the iRobot movie so unfaithful to its source material, Asimov's robot novels never had the robots as the bad guys.

Oh Asimov is better at it no doubt, he's better than other Sci-fi writers who try the same style too though. Just worth comparing the books Brooker is likely trying to emulate with his show.
