I prefer Sci-Fi because I'm sick of how much fantasy jerks off Tolkien.
Fantasy has become very same'y and predictable, in a lot of respects.
While as far as I can tell Sci-Fi hasn't really had a 'Lord of the Rings' that everyone looks towards for inspiration, its more open and seems to have more different and complex ideas and concepts.
I think they work better together in tandem, and that most good sci-fi has certain fantasy elements to it anyway, probably because its a less restricting genre.

And for each sci-fi product that has those common tropes, there is another that doesn't.
Am I saying every single thing of sci-fi is a completely new idea that is utterly different from anything that has come before?
Of course it isnt, it has common tropes that are getting worn out and tiresome.
I'm just saying that it has substantially less of these common tropes than Fantasy and as such I find it less predictable and more interesting.
