Have you seen the trailers, even the trailers fuck it up. Sure its SJW bullshit and that's a draw but that crowd is bag of cats volatile. It'll survive for a few reasons. I think most amateur internet commentators are past the point of caring about appearing sexist except for progressives on Twitter and certain subreddits. Check out some of the comments for the trailer on Youtube. Feminists will gloat over the fact that it exists but I don't think normal people will take much notice.
You're right about the political implications giving it free press, but I don't think the "progressive market" will be enough to bring in a crowd. Slacktivists generally pay lip service to their causes but will rarely put their money where their mouth is (see every black movie remake ever).
Like Star Wars, it'll get by on aggressive marketing and franchise popularity, and progressives will hail it as a victory even though it would've made twice as much money if it had been made with quality entertainment in mind rather than liberal pandering.
I guess there's also the slim chance that it's not horrific but the trailer doesn't fill me with hope. It would take a lot of (independent) positive reviews for me to watch it. I'm not sure who the target audience is but it isn't me.

Reddit's good for funny/weird/interesting gifs and videos as well. 4chan used to share the best content from around the web but I genuinely think Reddit does that better now, because on some subreddits you get genuine quality being upvoted so you don't have to wade through as much shit.
It's not as good as 4chan for OC and discussion because only "hilarious" or "right on" content (puns, references, virtue signalling) gets upvoted and "controversial" opinions get censored/downvoted, which makes most of it predictable and stale. They do have some great video repost subreddits though and there are some "red pilled" subreddits out there. The popular forums have definitely become much less "progressive" in the last year or two.
