It was a fun movie. Refreshing that they changed the formula after 3. Lame that the trailer and all promo material revealed the plot twist, although there are some major hints in the movie.
And one major plothole that came to my attention barely a year ago: So Marcus was made by the machines to fuck John Connor. But why at the end of the movie? There were so many opportunities for Marcus to be overrrided and flat out kill John Connor.

One thing that actually bugged me a bit about Salvation was the lack of laser guns. All depictions of the future in previous movies showed lasers being blasted in all directions. Even Genisys had this. I don't think it would've fit with the gritty feel of the movie though.

Original ending has the Hybrid replacing Connor after he dies and leading the Resistance. It was "too dark" to have a Connor fighting against SkyNet that is in fact a Terminator. Not only it was perfect ending for this shit because every time they talk about him in the future everybody talks about him being pretty much like a machine that never stops fighting and leading the resistance but also made sense that it was near impossible he had survived so long after having a whole fucking robot armada trying to kill him.

For whatever reason I like the premise and the style of the film which makes me want to love the film but it is fundamentally flawed. I like the idea of a Terminator film taking place entirely in the future, because the Terminator franchise has already been bogged down with too many time breaking plots, but it was a mess.

The whole reason Marcus worked was because he believed he was human.
Even if they somehow had the chip override his thought process, his subconscious would be aware, and possibly fight it.
It boils down like the Matrix with Salvation. Skynet made Marcus retain all his humanity; that was where John Connor would be exploited, his weakness.
Though, you're correct, so many different things could have killed Connor in Salvation (those water machines when he chases after Marcus, him crashing the helicopter, him following Marcus to LA Skynet, the T-800 [well technically he did die from this], and the powercell building explosion).
