the scene takes 3 minutes
that is way too much time for todays ADD generation
The scene needs to go PSSSSGHHH ZIIIINGGG CGI TRANSFORMATION, WEREWOLVES HURLING OVER CLIFFS BY THE THOUSANDS, JUMPING FROM VEHICLE TO VEHICLE ON A BUSY HIGH WAY AT NIGHT, RIPPIN SHIT UP WHILE RANDOM EXPLOSIONS AND DUBSTEP OCCUR IN THE BACKGROUND

I grew up on both these films. God damnit I love them both. American Werewolf in London is perhaps the only horror comedy that manages to be both scary and funny.

Well 3 minutes is a bit long for a transformation regardless.
The Monster Squad did a decent one just a few years later.

i think the howling has the better werewolf effects compared to AAWIL. maybe not quite the better transformation but its werewolves are certainly better looking.
also, if you have not seen the howling films i recommend you do. they are all interesting in their own ways.
the original is not very good at all, i have no idea why it's a classic, but as i said above the effects are really nice.
the second one is like... well, the director realized how shitty it was halfway through so he set about making the biggest joke possible. it's a wreck but it is a surprisingly good time.
the third one is fucking insane. kangaroo werewolf sex scenes and fucking disgusting effects, not to mention more crazy shit happens in the last 20 minutes than 2001 a space odyssey.
4th is total garbage except for the transformation, where a man melts and then a wolf skeleton rises from the puddle, growing back its flesh
5th is a comfy as fuck 80s murder mystery in a castle
6th is a legitimately good premise, a drifter running from the guilt of being a werewolf, refusing to settle down because he will hurt any friends he makes. but he can't help himself
others are pure shit, don't watch

It's a classic for the transformations. That's it. And Eddie Quist is an interesting character played by the great Robert Picardo. Otherwise the movie is pretty shit.

But it does have a pretty hot werewolf orgy.
