What I want to know is why they decided to make a Warcraft movie now? The flagship game for the franchise, WoW (yes it's the main game now despite the fact that it was built on a RTS series) has been steadily declining ever since the year long ICC patch. Sure you get spikes in subscriber numbers whenever a new expansion comes out but inevitably it drops lower than ever before. Not saying the movie will totally flop given that it's still the most successful MMO, in terms of sheer subscribers, but it's hardly the best time when six years ago the game had literally more than double the amount of players. Feels to me like they're trying to wring as much cash out of the franchise as possible before it dies considering WoW has neutered any possibility for a sequel. Just look at Azeroth Choppers.

Everytime I see someone post this same exact argument I cringe. People don't need to be current players to be interested in a movie about the same universe. If someone left because they don't want to play anymore doesn't mean they're not still interested in the world, the characters, the stories, etc... that they spent a long time with. Subscriber numbers are near irrelevant to the interest this movie will get from any of it's former fans. WoW has over 100m unique players over it's lifetime, more with the RTS games.
