The fact is they wanted to try and show what would happen when a being like superman comes to earth. The huge destruction he could cause etc. When they simply forget if Superman was either to run as fast as he could or punch someone hard as he could. He would simply destroy the planet instantly. It's not that there is destruction, but more that Snyder refuses to show Superman doing anything to stop it, or have him save people from collapsing buildings, or anything of the sort. In BvS we get a montage of Supes being, well, Supes, and it's one of the most depressing parts of the movie. The one part that shows Superman doing what people wanted him to do in MoS is depicted entirely as a burden for Superman that he doesn't really want to bear.
