I am a 23 year old man with a very real disconnection from my emotions.

However, this film makes me cry like a little bitch every time I watch it (repeat offender).

Anyone else having this problem? I'd take great comfort in knowing I'm not alone.
>>
>>67563791
Really? I couldn't get through the first ten minutes of that. Reeked too much of hipster loser trash.

>I am a 23 year old man with a very real disconnection from my emotions.
You're still a fucking child.
This isn't the 1900s. Adolescence in essense now extends to 30

ok grandpa

But historically people, especially men, are taught to bury their emotions

I will watch quite literally watch any film, and I heard this went down a blast at Sundance, so I gave it a whirl and now I'm a mess.

>>67563845
I don't understand your point but okay, sure.

I like the part where he posted something from a movie and talked about a movie but he didn't mention the movie and the picture doesn't give anything explicit away about the movie, that shit was so cash, so cash I might see the movie if I knew what movie but I don't know what movie so I won't see the movie

Okay, Gwampa.
>>

i just didn't like the jumpy, "whimsical" style and the idea of a weak-chinned uggo getting a hot manic pixie girl sounds too much like a self-insert fantasy.

Not bury, control.
>>
This movie sucked.
>>
>>67564182
No, ignore. Repress. Controlling means coming to terms with. Men where taught to totally disregard most emotions and direct it all into anger.
>>
>>67564152
This is why you're a manchild. You don't even have the courtesy to explain something to people who don't know about it.

Grow the fuck up.
>>
>>67564121

Shut up, asswipe, like you even have a relevant opinion.
>>
>>67564283

I wasn't aiming it at people who needed it explaining..

But sick assumptions bro ":D"

This was the first film I cried to (sort of, very teary eyes) since I saw Raising Arizona when I was 7, I'm 25 now.

I don't think any other film has had quiet the impact emotionally, positively or negatively.

It's really weird, it wasn't until the last 40 minutes I realized this is a great fucking movie.

come to think of it, there's nobody talking about the latest big-budget shitfest that's in the works. Hey guys, how 'bout this new Warcraft movie? /v/ meets /tv/ amirite?
>>
>>67564051

It's literally nothing like that, this is a film about friendship, there isn't really any romance at all.
>>
is oliva cooke anyone else's #1 waifu?

Maybe i'll give it a shot. I might've just been in a bad mood or something.

Exactly how I felt man.

Tbh I only continued watching after I saw how hot Olivia Cooke was in it. Actually took me a while to realise she plays Emma in Bates Motel too, despite looking the same.

>>67565016
Like I said I'll watch anything at least once, good reviews or otherwise. I'd advise watching it, very human feeling to it, particularly the last 3rd.

I'm a stronk 21st man and I'm not afraid to show my emotions, many flicks, movies, and films make me cry like a baby

You want an explanation? Here's an explanation.

The cinematography is top-notch and when the humour is good it's REALLY good. But most of the time it falls flat, along with everything else. This movie is all over the place regarding story, characters' intentions, tone and whatever message we're supposed to take from it. It tries to be an emotional, quirky coming-of-age tale and fails, unfortunately. The main character, while faintly relatable at times, is ultimately unlikable. Even the "dying girl" has next to no character so the audience is unable to form an emotional connection with her - it's not enough to just make her have cancer. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl also suffers from a smug, forced form of comedy. It's loaded with pop-culture references, often to old art films (as this is a central, yet poor, plot device), which screams "get it?!", as if it makes up for actual cleverness. Which is a shame because all the original jokes in this movie are quite hilarious. I could go on forever about this film's faults and how I feel it's very overrated. I absolutely hate this word but this is one of the few films that I think feels pretentious.
>>
>>67565539
See? That's well thought out. Why didn't you write that in the first place, anon?
>>
>>67563791
Olivia Cooke has that effect on me for some reason and I don't know why. She even managed to get me misty-eyed a couple times on that crappy Bates Motel show.
>>
>>67565690
Honestly because it seems like everyone's minds are made up on this board so any piece of actual criticism would just get shot down. But thanks for listening, I appreciate it.
>>
>>67565853
Criticism of criticism is common.

I honestly just wanted to know who cried like a little bitch at it though
>>
>hate young adult bullshit
>like emotionally manipulative sad movies
Conflicted. Should I watch it?

>>67564995
>any romance at all.
nvm dropped
>>
>>67566385
It is meant to be romantic, but not in a Romeo & Juliet confessing love way. More like a: what if she wasn't dying? You can tell they're becoming more than friends throughout the film, although they never hit it off for fairly obvious reasons.

But if you just fancy watching something that is highly emotionally manipulative, this will fulfil that role.
