Zelda's the most generic fantasy game around. Its gameplay is what makes it so good and memorable. Its story has always been weak, only Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword, and a Link Between Worlds had a story that transcended "Basic as fuck"
Halo's story is basic space marine shit too. It's already drawing heavily from shit like Starship Troopers. Warcraft is obviously derivative as well. I guess the difference is people were retarded enough to make a movie about it when they were smart with other games.

WoW has more nostalgia value. The time to make a Halo movie was 2009 when you know they went to do that. District 9 was worth it.

First, simplistic !=! generic. Second, you could easily flesh out every 3D Zelda story to something complex enough for a movie. Star Wars VII basically has no story except "find Luke, lel, evil guys are doing it again."
The whole twilight realm thing in Twilight Princess leaves room for so much imagination. A place created for banishing the interlopers, over centuries more and more powerful magicians. However, instead of becoming some anarchis shithole with inmates just fighting each other all day which would be totally unrealistic (see the movie "The One"), inmates managed to make this former prison a community, a working realm with an infastructrure.
