Also of course he shows up in every thread, he's one of the best. I've never posted him before, but clearly he's well liked enough that people still bring him up. And he kills by decapitation, which is pretty rad.

I don't want to bicker with you over whether Mbwun here is a good monster. The sad fact is, there isn't much left that most of us haven't seen yet.

Sad part is, I don't think there's much on the horizon in terms of monster movies (outside Kaiju) in the future.

Here's one that probably doesn't get posted often. From Peter Benchley's Creature, a mid 90's made for tv movie. Shit movie, good book, great monster. Love shark monsters, wish there was more like it.

(I though about posting the monster from Deep Rising but thats another one that probably shows up every thread)

Leviathan (1980's) has a pretty great monster.

But it's a fucking terrible movie (not as bad as Deep Star Six, but only slightly). It's a real shame, too. They had a great set, a terrific monster, some good actors... just shit lighting (everything was way over brgiht, should have gone for the darker Ridley Scott look in Alien), the cinematography was boring as fuck and workman-like, and a really incompetent director.

Could have been great. Could have been The Thing under water.
Cool monster though!

I had so much fun with Pacific Rim in IMAX, I wish other people could have enjoyed it as much as I did. I was never expecting a cinematic masterpiece, just an awesome movie about giant robots and monsters, which I got. Only thing I wish we got was a daytime battle.

How the fuck was this supposed to be a kids Christmas movie?

Or did the marketing department just fail abysmally?
>>
>>67403474
I don't think it was, I think it was definitely advertised as a holiday themed horror/comedy. It's like Gremlins.

What are you talking about anon?

Also if I saw this as a kid I would be terrified but I'd probably love it, I'm glad they made a movie like this.

It wasn't. It's from the guy who made Trick r' Treat. Christmas comedy horror, same as Gremlins.

>>67403326

I wish it kept the same tone throughout the whole movie. That shit was genuinely creepy when the daughter is caught in the storm and Krampus is jumping house to house. Once the toys started getting fully involved it started to get too comedic for me.

So did pretty much every monster he faced in the Heisei series

Godzilla beat Destroyah fair and square three times (I'm pretty certain. I haven't seen the movie in at least a year).

He beat him after he killed Junior

He killed him when he split up into the multiple spider-like Destroyahs

He killed him again when he was close to reaching meltdown

Destroyah lost a total of three times. He's enormous, strong, and quite resilient, but he's not nearly as strong as you're making him out to be.

He's not even the strongest enemy monster of the Heisei series. That title goes to Spacegodzilla

Loved these guys from "Monsters". The movie as a whole had its problems, but I love that while they appropriated a lot of real-life animal features for the completed aliens, they still felt unique and like totally plausible animals that could exist. It was also dope to get a little glimpse of their life cycle, from tree-clinging lichen-like spore/egg thing, to aquatic larva, to massive walking comb jelly/octopus/spider hybrid.

Yeah, they had menace but without looking sinister like the 1953 stingray designs. These things just looked "cold", like you said.

It took a bit of the charm out for me when they showed the aliens piloting them looked just like the tripods. Sorry, I know mechs are cool, but in real life, it's dumb for any intelligent animal to design a vehicle that looks just like itself.

I would've been way more excited if the aliens looked like the octopus-like things described in the book, where they had just become to technologically-dependent that their brains and "hands" were the most well-developed parts of their bodies, and the rest had atrophied. It would be kind of a neat contrast to have something disgusting and bulky drive those tripods which have kind of an intimidating elegance.

All they did in their earlier scene was repeat exactly what the probe had done right before them. A complete waste in hindsight.

>radio and Slusho tie-ins tease that the film is happening simultaneously to the events of Cloverfield (this happens within the first two minutes of the film so I don't consider it a spoiler)

actual spoilers below

main character gets to the surface and Cloverfield monster is nowhere to be seen, just faggy Day After Tomorrow 2 aliens. "omgz we're fighting back and we're winning!!1"

what a fucking disappointment. so now either this movie has nothing to do with Cloverfield after all, or Cloverfield has now been retconned to be part of this gay ass alien invasion. movie should have ended after the escape sequence and if they wanted to tie in Cloverfield the lady should have birthed the parasites from the original movie. the rest of the film was really good, though

>Godzilla's general design was partially based on the work of Czech painter Zdenek Burian, specifically his outdated, early 20th century reconstruction of the dinosaur Iguanodon. Godzilla's posture, the way he holds his hands and to a degree his skin texture were taken directly from Burian's artwork. Interestingly, the dinosaurs in Burian's pieces also have folds in their skin, much like Godzilla due to him being a rubber suit.

>Inspired by the fictional Rhedosaurus created by animator Ray Harryhausen for the film The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms,[24] Godzilla's iconic character design was conceived as that of an amphibious reptilian monster based around the loose concept of a dinosaur[25] with an erect standing posture, scaly skin, an anthropomorphic torso with muscular arms, spikes on its back and tail, and a furrowed brow.[26] Art director Akira Watanabe combined attributes of a Tyrannosaurus, an Iguanodon, a Stegosaurus and an alligator[27] to form a sort of blended chimera, inspired by illustrations from an issue of Life magazine.

I don't know about that, I'm almost glad for the fake hype. other than the pants-on-head retarded ending, the movie was very enjoyable, and if it weren't for the advertising gimmicks I probably never would have gone to the theater to see it in the first place.

I dont think they're winning. MEWs radio said they had taken back the eastern seaboard and that tey needed help in Houston. I think at the end of 10CL they are getting btfo. As for the Cloverfield monster, i mean i bet they're developing better methods for killing this things. I mean, MEW annihilated a ship with a molotov which seemed a little too easy but whatever.

I think it's the most adaptable of Lovecraft's stories though. That and Charles Dexter Ward would work well as movies. Others not so much.

it's got the same great atmosphere as any of lovecraft's other "oh my gawd check out this unholy ancient city of horrifying creatures that came to earth millions of years ago" stories, except it's ten times as long for no reason and therefore gets boring as shit IMO

Before they even say the word "cyclopean" its established an atmosphere.

I think the performances are fine, but the huge pauses between sentences are jarring. Alfred, Gehrman and Valtr all have good performances, but since there's no conversations it's just one person spouting lines at you and sounds strange.
