To be more specific: Every change from the books made the series worse, every season has been worse than the last (as they diverge more and more from the books), characters have been gravely misunderstood and good talent wasted.
Exception: Tywin in season 1. His introduction scene was not in the books in exactly the way they had it on the show and it ended up being quite good.
It was all downhill from there.
