I don't think they bought off reviewers, but I think they set a standard on capemovies, that it is supposed to be fun and silly, not dark and gritty like DC likes to do. Deadpool also did well because it is fun despite the R rating. Superman just doesn't work in a dark movie, his costume and powers are to silly and unrealistic. Captain America and Batman works in darker settings however, because they can make them look less like superheroes and more like agents and stuff.

You know why DC movies except Batman always fail? Because the don't have characters. They have icons. It's like trying to make a serious and deep movie about Mickey Mouse or Sonic the Hedgehog. It just doesn't work. Superman, Wonder Woman, etc are all shit characters who people cannot relate to. I mean Marvel has some of that to with its less popular heroes like Thor and Hulk (which is why their movies suck the most) but the fact that they managed to make Thor 1 work decently (let's not talk about the sequel) is a massive credit to their abilities. However the most important Marvel characters are like Batman in that they're not unrelateable gods, they're just regular flawed people with weird but far less powerful abilities that DC: Iron Man, Captain America, Spiderman, Ant-Man.
