You're right about dialogue. Part of me believe Chronicle worked because Trank knew what to do with the talking.
I've read Me Him Her and Frankenstein by Max and his stuff sometimes has compelling elements (the fresh take on Frankenstein is cool) but most are shit. His second acts have no weight and the third acts feel like lackluster climaxes.
Again his dialogue is tripe. He literally has moments where the characters explain why they are so sad/tragic/messed up. That's not how to write.
