What are the modern movie "classics?" I'm probably forgetting some, feel free to add

-American Psycho
-The Big Lebowski
-Inception
-Pulp Fiction
-No Country for Old Men
-Ferris Bueller's Day Off

What movies made in the past 20 years will still be loved 50 years from now?
>>
>Inception

Paprika did it first, and better.

Ferris Bueller's day off was made in the 80s
and Pulp fiction is 22 years old

I'm sure there are plenty of great movies that have come out recently, but I don't see as many as I used to. The ones above all left very strong impressions after seeing them, and I'm happy to watch them multiple times.

Okay ferris bueller might be a little reaching for "modern" but 2 years for pulp fiction is fine

>>67231266

Not a fan? Were there other Nolan movies that outshined it? In some way Inception seemed like it was new/unique/pushing the boundaries that Interstellar wasn't.

Not him but Inception was only ok. Besides a couple glaring plot holes I can't get over, the acting was bland, the music was sometimes good but sometimes made the movie feel cheap, if that makes sense. The concept is cool, and Nolan is great at using real sets, but the making of extras are more entertaining than the movie itself

Classics means must see whose keywords are "essential" and "core"
>>
The litmus test for true classics is "did it have an American director"

You're fooling yourself if you think any American product isn't A+++ or that foreign directors could ever produce anything but the most pleb of flicks.

And since "classic" is nothing but an opinion with no objective basis in reality, you can't prove me wrong
>>
>>67233359
What are some must see classics from the essentialcore genre?
>>
>>67231600

While I really like Inception, it's a prime example of Nolan's poor visual imagination. The final level of Inception, what is supposed to be a limbo where anything and everything can be created, is just grey spires lined up next to each other. It's a real letdown.

Jarhead.

It's not that loved now, but what else is there that accurately captures the times of the Gulf War?
>>
>>67233481
Does there have to be a classic movie for every war? There are a lot of wars in history.
>>
A NEW SWINDLE
THE NAZIS STRIKES BACK
RETURN OF THE JEWDIES
THE PHANTOM BANK
ATTACK OF THE KEKS
REVENGE OF THE MERCHANTS
THE FARCE AWAKENS
>>
>>67231266
tbl is more important thab most of your list

kaufman crap, pathetic
>>
>>67233493
Only every war since the invention of movies.
>>
>>67233281
>64

that's the same fucking score.

memes aside, amersican psycho is a terrible film and adaptation. it meanders way too much and isn't nearly as biting of a satire as the book. it's a watered down Hollywood pastiche.
>>
>>67233493
yes almost every living person that is in the war will watch it at some point. not so much with no draft though.
>>
>>67233618
>>67233588
My meaning is this: say for instance there is only one war about the Croatian War of Independence. I don't know how many there are, but just for the sake of argument, there's only one and it's awful. Does that make it a classic because it's the best at portraying that war, by virtue of being the only one to portray it?
>>
>>67233645
classic a meaningless term for old and popular.
>>
>>67233645
No, because most people have never even heard of that war and it's not in the public conscious.
Jarhead is good, it's not like I only picked it because of the setting.
>>
>>67233710
I bet most people in the Europe have heard of it. It's the same timeframe as the Gulf War by the way.

Anyone here actually read American Psycho?

The movie is retarded in comparison. Read the book, it's an amazing dark comedy.

>the panic attacks
Gold.

Not even kidding, Fight Club is a modern movie "classic", even the author said so. I've read the book, it sucked compared to the movie.
