You can tell they wanted to release this for Easter, but didn't think it could compete with Risen or The Young messiah, so they toned down the religious aspects for the trailer to push it back for a late summer release just to cut their losses.

I might just be a bad trailer, but they make it look like too much of a typical revenge/action movie. The story is about Ben Hur's journey to letting go of his revenge and reconciling himself with his mother and sister, ans well as his being shaped by his encounters with Christ. There's also the ethnic/political tensions between Rome and Judea. It's more sophisticated than just "revenge".
