it's a miserable show by design (last episode is the best example so far). he seems to want to show how bullshit and toxicity drags everything and everyone down, which is fine, but the shoehorned political references detracts from the character work. the dinner date is the best case of it working, the straight up trump/hillary talk is the worst case.

I'm not buying the episodes no matter how anybody here answers. But I assume, after it's done or between seasons, Louis will sell the show to Netflix. Beacon Theater showed up on Netflix, and that was only available on his site at first.

Yes I've seen it all. It's like the Louie episodes which are full throttle drama. Like the Hungarian elevator woman. Occasional black comedy relief but the main focus is well-written, well-acted drama.

it's essentially a stage play. all drama/commentary and almost zero comedy. one/two camera setup with very little editing, lots of single (loooong) takes that simply focus on the actors. it's a very different show from louie, a harder watch, more challenging dramatic material.

I really liked Lucky Louie because of the stage performance/small play feel and the depressing as shit characters. This is pretty much the same thing but more straight drama, it's really good writing for the most part even if the content is a little embarrassingly liberal at times.

I really didn't mind most of the political talk even if it was really dumb in places but when he tried to qualify that pretentious grandstanding email within the world of the show in the last episode I really wanted to give up on it altogether. I'm not through the first episode. Edie Falco's character just walked in. But man fuck that fat cunt of a daughter.
I love it. It's honestly his masterpiece. If you saw that episode of Louie where he gets lunch with the Hollywood exec and pitches his ideas to her, only for her to abandon the lunch because his ideas are so depressing, you'll know this is the type of thing he always wanted to make.
The dialogue is absolutely on point and this show's best quality - I have simply never heard dialogue that felt this realistic or true to life (the only exception being that most people aren't constantly spewing wise anecdotes about shit IRL). The way he gives every single character a chance to speak their mind and make their case about whatever is just so....fair. This show just seems to be about how important it is to listen to each other and understand that we're all depressed/right/wrong in some way.
And yeah, as fun as it is to call him a cuck this show really isn't pushy towards the left - liberal stereotypes seem to be criticized just as much as the rightwinger characters on this show. And despite that huge Trump e-mail, actual political discussion on the show isn't that frequent, and when it happens, it generally just replicates the way most idiots talk about politics.
The thing that sucks is that the pay-per-episode model means only people who are already fans of CK's work are watching the show right now, so the posters who normally regards Louis CK as just another racebait meme are really missing out. I think they would like this a lot better than his standup/FX show.

But even LL had the same uncomfortable watching problems that Louie had.
Louis CK standup is something I can just watch for hours, effortlessly. It's not like Louis CK's television isn't about the same topics, but Louis CK's ideas filtered through other actors just makes me cringe.
It's like having real faces to put with the stories makes them more real, and makes them unbearable. When these people are just ideas evoked by Louis CK's voice, it's calming and entertaining.

As someone who is a big fan of Louie, I find Horace and Pete to largely be missing the mark. Louie doesn't always get things right, and while this show is definitely engaging and well presented it isn't really saying anything all that interesting. There's no consistency between episodes so there's no through line developing and so far every episode has just been about ambiguity and how shitty people/life are, which is becoming tedious.
