>The Big Knife
I actively hated this movie while I was watching it. It's written by the real-life version of Barton Fink, full of earnest speechifying about 'peronitis of the soul" and the like. Painful.

Are those just the only ones you've seen? That movie is terrible mediocre
Forget it Jake it's Chinatown
>>67065047
I wouldn't go that far. It's overwritten for sure, and maybe a bit too melodramatic, but it's Aldrich at his most acerbic with nothing but pure contempt for the Hollywood machine and what it does to the cogs. Really just the logical follow-up to Kiss Me Deadly. (And I guess the logical precursor to What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, even though that's not noir.)
Too many to name desu
>>67065189
Yeah, Killer's Kiss is arguably the worst movie on that chart and probably only there because it's Kubrick.
>>67065119
None of those are neo-noir and those are all horrible.
>>67065285
You don't know what neo-noir is, and you have shit taste.
>>67065285
How the hell is Sin City not neo-noir?
>>67065285
Those are neo noir though. Forgot to include Brick
Watchmen too I guess
>>67065235
Aldrich's best movie about Hollywood is The Legend of Lylah Clare. The Big Knife is a bad adaptation of a heavy-handed, facile play and best avoided by all except Aldrich completeists. I have an HD tv rip of it but I've been unable to bring myself to watch it after that first experience. Maybe one day.

You should. It's not without it's flaws (your criticisms aren't inaccurate) but it rises above them. The performances are uniformly great, it's depiction of Hollywood as an oppressive institution is both fantastically over-the-top and poignant and Aldrich tows the line between pathos and satire quite well. You might still hate it, a lot of people do. I think it's a great example of Aldrich elevating B material though.
Lylah Claire IS better, yeah, but also not noir.
