Reddit af tbph.
Chaplin is far more than just comedy and that's what puts him far beyond the others.

>implying keaton was 'just' fun
You can fairly say this about lloyd, but keaton just took a more subtle approach than chaplin to the emotional sides of the characters
Keaton is just on a whole other level than Chaplin. The only Chaplin I really liked was The Kid. The others had some good stuff but felt really disappointing overall. Keaton was brilliant almost every time.

I think Chaplins excessive sentimentality and paper thin politics is what puts him below Keaton. Modern Times is the big exception
this seems like the best chance to get this answered....
I've seen a movie with a guy and a girl running away from some people. they ride on a train and get chased by some coppers i think.
black and white, silent, quite funny slapstick
i can't find that movie, i don't think it was chaplin because no stache and i just can't find out what else it might have been.
any ideas?
Chaplin makes Griffith look like minimalist in comparison. Chaplin's aspirations to "transcend" comedy were about as subtle as being hit over the head with a mallet - if I wanted melodrama I'd watch Griffith and if I wanted comedy I'd watch Keaton. But if I wanted lukewarm melodrama interspersed with boring slapstick thought up on the spot I'd watch Chaplin. And what's worse, Chaplin just got worse with time.

Pretty much this.
The Kid > The Gold Rush > The Circus > City Lights > Modern Times

I wouldn't say worse with time, but I've liked each new Chaplin I've seen less than the previous one, with the exception of The Circus which is just mediocre compared to all the rest

i've already seen that and I was sure that it's different, but looking through it now that's probably right.
thanks
>Ghostbusters with the three stooges
I guess that's what sony is going to do after 23 Jump street.
