Please recommend me some classic cinema. I'd like to widen my taste and watch some quality old movies. I enjoyed The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) and A Farewell to Arms (1932).
What are some other films in this vein? You can suggest directors too.

I love classic movies, but I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen either of those films. Regardless, you can't really go wrong with directors like Howard Hawks, John Ford, Frank Capra, Raoul Walsh or Billy Wilder.

Some of the old Ealing output was deliciously dark.
I love Kind Hearts and Coronets and The Man in the White Suit, both starring Alec Guinness.
