It takes place before ANH and I'm pretty sure it's about the Death Star plans. Which maeks it a Star Wars heist movie. That's all we need to know.
We already know the story when it comes to prequels. Much less interesting.
Spoilers: The Rebels get the Death Star plans at the end of the movie and give them to Princess Leia.
Sequels are exploring the unknown and pique interest much more as a result. Too bad TFA sucked.

Disney is very secretive about the plots of their Star Wars movies and i like it, The Force Awakens' trailers were some of the best Blockbuster trailers in the last 10 years because they gave nothing away.
