I was seriously pissed at the end when I realized Nathan was just using the weak ginger as test material.
I mean he could have selected a more solid guy to test his machine, because his experiment is seriously biased by the fact the ginger doesn't get any. So it's a movie about a genius guy, who doesn't get to prove anything about his revolutionary machine and then dies. A bit anti-climactic if you ask me.
