it was disjointed, the script nonsensical, and orlando bloom was totally laughable as the lead. it had some good scenes and imagery but you kiddos should really check out some more films

And you probably already know this, but the Wachoski's first draft of The Matrix had humankind being enslaved in the vats by the machines for their latent brain processing power. But test audiences found that too confusing so they changed it to the machines enslaving humanity to use them as batteries.
