I don't have an exactly number, but I'd say maybe roughly half or 2/3 of the original. Everyone went because it was a dry winter/Christmas season that year. 3D was a huge deal and gimmick at that time, whereas now everyone hates it. The 3D ticket sales are what inflated the box office on it. It was an "experience" and after that everyone became sick of 3D. I'm surprised they're still bothering.

1.2 billion. Avatar was a perfect storm. It was James Cameron's return, a massive step forward for CGI and the first film to revolutionize 3D. Avatar 2 won't be a flop but it won't make anywhere near as much as the original.
