just came back from a preview screening of this. I'm a fan of the original, so I went in with low expectations since this isn't found footage and I had those expectations met. Not too bad, but pretty much inferior to the original in every way. In fact, for the most part, it doesn't feel too much like a Cloverfield sequel, it's very different, more claustrophobic (as you can tell from the trailers), and focused more on the dynamic between the three characters rather than on evading the monsters.
Some good humour here and there, with some effectively intense scenes and it's all fairly well plotted, but mostly uninteresting, unimpressive, and you don't get a weight of the catastrophes that are happening. Pretty much a standard monster flick, if this didn't have the Cloverfield name attached to it, it probably would've went straight to Netflix.

I'm not gonna' watch it anyway, so hurry up and post spoilers pls.

>Straight to netflix
>>
Hey post a detailed plot synopsis including specific information not shown in the trailers or eat shit and kill yourself.
>>
>>66856802
There's really not much to spoil. Movie ends on a "setting up for a sequel that probably won't happen" note.
>>
SPOILERS INCOMING
>>
Redit spoiled this days ago, it's alyiums.
You only see one in the dark (four-legged, size of a bear), but multiple spaceships while MEW drives away and the movie ends.
>>

Answer these in as much detail as possible:
>who dies, what order do they does it happen and how?
>what's the deal with the woman outside?
>what's in the vat?
>what is the monster and what does it look like?
>what is that light behind the house?
>>

OP is baiting, the guy on reddit was legit, verified himself to the mods with pictures and timestamps of his ticket and him inside the theater that showed an early screening.

>Pretty much a standard monster flick, if this didn't have the Cloverfield name attached to it, it probably would've went straight to Netflix

You are entirely correct. This is a film that's been sitting in a vault unreleased for a couple of years, Abrams decided to have some scenes reshot and effects altered, and release it as a Cloverfield sequel.
>>
Holy fuck, you stupid fags
>Goodman kills that other guy
>woman outside looks sick, never explained why
>HELP was carved in by another girl Goodman kidnapped
>He tells MEW that's Megan but the other guy sees a picture and tells her that it's the photo of some missing girl
>In the barrel is acid Goodman used to dissolved the former girl's body
>MEW escapes
>Bear alyum attacks
>She gets in the car while multiple spaceships emerge
end

OP is a FAGGOT

Cloverfield was mediocre at best, I would've hated this movie it was a sequel. Its way better than Cloverfield
>>
>>66856979

I wouldn't say that the dude was legit, considering other sources have claimed he's bullshitting and he deleted his account after being called out.
>>
>>66857884
>other sources have claimed he's bullshitting
But these sources couldn't verify they saw the movie, unlike the redditguy.
The only way he could be bullshitting is if he walked out of the theater (very unlikely) or simply lied after seeing the movie (why would he do that and not even post some "wtf" fake shit)
He also talked about the bear alien and the acid before the new trailers showed them.
He's legit as fuck.

Every movie sounds awful when you greentext it like a fucking faggot. You know that.

so are there actual monsters in the movie? and i'm not talking about john goodman or the dude being jackasses.

Why do Redditors do this? The fag made an account JUST to talk about the movie and he still nuked everything like a pussy after the fact. Little faggot didn't have any personal info on there.
>>
>>66858147
thanks for being sensitive to my condition, man. can you answer?

The whole concept is awful.
I'd take an actual Cloverfield sequel over it any day.

Threadly reminder that they want to make Cloverfield into an anthology series, and that it's connection to Cloverfield are in it's tone/themes rather than being a straight up sequel with silly shit like "EVERYTHING CHANGED AFTER THE NEW YORK INCIDENT!".

From the director:

>The Cloverfield universe, or "Cloververse", is really speaking to the name taking on this new meaning, this name being this platform to tell really unique, original stories that are truly bound by that same tone, that same sensibility. Always very intense and scary and unique takes on familiar genres. I think what was so exciting about the originally Cloverfield is that it was such a unique take on a familiar genre, and it being this found footage experience, this first person experience. This movie is more classically, traditionally told, but I still went through great strides to make it feel less like something that you watch, and more like something that you experience.
>>
>>66858466
INTO THE TRASH IT GOES
>>
>>66857139
he missed the worst part which is MEW destroys a ship with a molotov bomb
>>
>>66858466

Is it bad that I think this sounds better than a potential straightforward Cloverfield followup?

They've pretty much already told all they can with that story without overstaying their welcome, and the idea of getting unique Cloverfield-esque mystery box movies every few years with their own interconnected ARGs sounds pretty good to me.

Assuming 10CL is actually good that is.
>>
>>66858466
you could say the same thing about Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
>>
>>66858028
Then why did he delete his account after being called out? Mentioning 2 details isn't enough.
>>
>>66858792

To be fair, in that case there was a potentially good movie in there that was absolutely butchered by studio interference.

Also Book of Shadows was connected to the original film, but in a really meta way.
>>
>>66858848
When was he called out? f anything, some other sources confirmed the molotov bullshit.
>>
>>66856751
>John Goodman is still alive

Really? I'm honestly surprised because I thought he died years ago.
>>
>>66859018
He lost a huge amount of fat.
That movie was shot last year, that's why he's still fat as fuck.
>>
>>66859018

He's actually looking pretty good too, he lost a lot of weight and really un-JUST-ed himself.

I'm not much of a foot guy, but there's two great shots in this, though one is in near dark
>>
>>66858337
Not the guy you're replying to but dude why are you so angry? :/
>>
The original Cloverfield was really meh. Nothing special.
>>
>>66858296
Everyone would take a real sequel over this. I was at the NYC premiere and the director talked about how he knew he'd be making movies since he was three years old because he'd play with action figures and watch Raiders of the Lost ark (implying every kid doesn't already do that while growing up). I also noticed he has a foot fetish, plenty of unnecessary close ups on MEW's feet. And as soon as the other guy was shot by Goodman it turned into a Mary Sue feature on par with Force Awakens and The Thing 2011, no realism whatsoever. She just instantly kills a gigantic alien like it's nothing.

The could have built a connected universe. The clovie who attacked new york was just a baby, they can make a straight up sequel with the mother. Or the manga even if not canon had some nice ideas like multiple monsters about to conquer Earth. Destruction porn involving a monster would even give them more cash. But oh well, john goodman and aliens is also fine.
>>
>>66856751
>I'm a fan of the original,

I wasn't.
>>
>>66862910
I'm triggered by shit writing and boy did it show in the last 15 minutes of the movie, rest of it was decent though. If you're so opposed to criticism I suggest you get off this board and this site in general. Actually, avoid the internet altogether since people are even criticizing this on IMDb and rightfully so.
>>66863543
He came off as a "new male" type of guy, you know the pussified type. Obviously got the job because he's a jew who knows a thing or two about visual effects. This movie was really standard, and I know the real Cloverfield wasn't the best picture but it still kept things interesting. This simply didn't.
>>
>>66863601
The original didn't trick you. It promised a found footage monster movie in NYC and that's what you got. This movie is an indie thriller about a guy and a girl who have to escape a psycho in a bunker with five million bucks worth of cgi added in for the final scene to make it seem like something special and also to associate it with the Cloverfield name. It's a real good scam, literally no way this can flop. I'd feel fucking ripped off if I payed to see this though, especially for an IMAX ticket.

> if this didn't have the Cloverfield name attached to it, it probably would've went straight to Netflix.

You mean Hollywood would slap a name on a film that has nothing to do with it solely to sell a few more tickets to their netflix tier film release?

Impossible! Especially from such a classy production company as Bad Robot.
>>
>>66864948

The reason that there isn't a straight up Cloverfield 2 is because that story has been told, and the way it wrapped up there's not a whole lot they could do to continue it without retreading and rehashing the same concept.

So instead they made a brand new movie that shares the same kind of spirit that does something different and unique, while connecting it the the original only very subtlety.

Not everything needs to be an epic ongoing cinematic universe.
>>
>>66865191
>it promised found footage
>implying found footage isnt supposed to be perceived as real for gullible underage 12 year olds.
>implying it even does that right.
>>
>>66865507
Were you not around back then? Found footage hadn't been played out yet. In fact, it was in it's prime. Cloverfield is one of the best found footage movies and one of the most successful. It still felt new and didn't turn into a gimmick yet. And imo it worked for it because if it was just shot like a normal movie it would've turned into a more boring Godzilla/Pacific Rim.
>>
>>66865619
the marketing worked but the entire idea behind found footage is supposed to be the opposite of honesty.
>>
>>66856942
-Beard dude dies first, then JG as a result of acid/bunker exploding
-Woman outside is infected, goes apeshit and slams her head into the glass like 50 times
-Acid in the vat, he drops a box cutter, scissors, and beard dude's body into that shit
-Monster 1 looks like a lamprey dog Monster 2 looks like alienship meets lovecraft, but not as cool as wthat
- Light behind the house is the ship monster
>>
>>66867302
First 70ish minutes of the movie are great, kinda drops the ball in the last 10 minutes
>>
>>66865619
Cloverfield is the perfect example of a good concept executed poorly. Everyone fell for the marketing ruse.
>>
>>66867302
Was there actually a nuclear attack?
Are the monsters uh...hm, do they really matter in anyway? Not sure how to ask what I'm thinking.
>>
>>66867463
the monsters are aliens who presumably orchestrated the attack, they have ships patrolling looking for anyone still alive
>>
>>66867553
That's severely disappointing. Are there any like fleeting references to Slusho or anything even vaguely cloverfield related? Or New York?
>>

For people who are still afraid of the reddit boogeyman

I think people are still a bit confused about the monsters in this movie. There are only two.
One is a smaller monster about the size of a bear we all think. It acts like a wild wolf or dog. It is surrounded by these hexagon shaped metal and has a mouth that acts like a tardigrade. It has small teeth surrounding all of its circular mouth.
The second is the alien ships. These have spikes on the side of them that help it basically swim through the air. As I said before, it's like a giant whale in the sky. There is a tiny mouth on the very bottom of the ship or its "belly". It has tentacles that can retract and scoop things up to put in its mouth.
At the end of the movie you see a couple more in the sky when the lightning strikes. They looked a lot bigger to us than the one MEW destroyed.

sounds good tbqh

>>66868729
Holy shit, this is so bad.
Anyone else feel that Cloverfield was far better thought-out and original than this?
Sounds like they rushed and slapped some generic sci-fi shit together, then stamped a Goosebumps sticker on the whole thing claiming it was the plan all along, what a waste.
