I saw this in theaters. I had no idea back in '07 this game had a big enough following to warrant a movie.
Then I learned the film was produced by Vin Diesel whose Chronicles of Riddick videogames come to a close second for best movie based videogames. Obviously The Warriors is number one.

Shit directors, meddling executives, and general disregard for the source material by everyone in charge.
It doesn't help that 9 times out of 10 the protagonists are completely silent and mostly blank slates devoid of character, or are literal faceless cannon fodder meant to be thrown at enemy faceless cannon fodder until someone wins the game through superior strategy and efficient tactics.
It's entirely possible to make a decent movie out of nearly any kind of game. Unfortunetly the number of equally decent directors doesn't quite line up with that figure.

Dead or Alive is good because it knew exactly what it was. Shameless T&A, and they turned the cheesiness up to 11. It never takes itself seriously, even for a second. Is it Eyes Without a Face or Persona? Fuck no, but it never tries to be. It's fun shlock and it embraces that fact.
