I don't know why the fuck I slept on this for so long, but can we have a thread about this? Jesus this show is fucking heavy, just finished the last episode of season 8. Is it true Hart's daughter Aubrey was a victim when she was younger? What was up with her setting up those dolls and stuff?
>>66736321
I think Marty's daughter playing with the dolls and her drawings were just more of a reflection of how some kids, most kids are fascinated by sex at that age. I know I did similar shit at that age. Of course as you're watching through the first time you're looking for clues and it gives off that vibe of "hey, this will be important later" but as far as I remember it's not addressed again.
>>66736756
Not OP, but something not being addressed later on doesn't lessen the importance of a scene.
As far as I can tell, TD is meant to show its subtext implicitly.
>>66736871
Psychosphere.
The idea was that marty's constant contact with the case was bleeding through to his daughter.
>>66736940
What's your take on it?
The writer believes "psychosphere" is an actual thing or was it meant to be metaphorical and poetic?
Overrated show to be honest. Fedora tipping man was cringey and the plot basically went nowhere. I heard season 2 was worse
>>66737221
Yes.
It's that type of tv/film where as much shit as thrown against the wall as possible and the viewer is left to decide what sticks and what doesn't. The psychosphere was definitely a literal phenomena that rust was definitely tapped straight into due to drugs, and other people's connections were latent/subconscious. But if don't like that, neither the show or writers are going to force it.
Who was the True Detective?

>>66736756
doesn't that same daughter later get picked up by the local cops for having a threesome with two guys in a car? It's been a while since I watched this, but Hart calls her "captain of the varsity slut team".
Not saying there's any larger significance, just lending credence to anon's "kids get interested in sex at odd times, even early on" statement. If I'm remembering it right, that's the payoff for that setup. I guess if you are really digging for significance you could say the show was making a comment on how kids are being sexualized younger and younger and are trying more taboo things, to go along with the show's theme of sexual "degeneracy" and abuse.
It's all one big ghetto, man. A giant gutter in outer space.

Dusty Mason.
>>66736321
Now watch season 2. It's even better.
>>66736321
I finally got around to watching season 2, was it good?
>>66737494
>le season 2 is good meme
>>66737407
Yeah, I think I'm just looking at it from the wrong perspective and was hoping too strongly she was going to be involved with the cult plot. This may be a bit irrelevant but anyone on here know of any good fiction or non fiction books that have to do with cults? Especially the sexual aspects? Stuff is really captivating
>>66737497
It was good. It lacked the polish of season 1, however, but season 1 was a labor of love worked on over many years. The network exec in charge of the show even confessed they rushed a second season because of the surprise popularity of the first and the quality suffered because of it.

>just finished the last episode of season 8
this show was beautifully filmed.
>>66736321
Yes, Audrey was rapt
When they started chasing Errol, in season finale, 2nd half, what was with the old skinny guy tied to a bedframe? Who was he? Looked like a Rust from a different timeline.
>>66736940
Stop saying shit like you can smell a psycho's fear
Audrey was rapt
>>66738647
Old Man Whatley. Yug-Sothoth is the Gate.
>>66738647
Also curious
> Is it true Hart's daughter Aubrey was a victim when she was younger?
No, it's was related to what Rust was talking about, the psychosphere which is a kind of shared consciousness that some cults seek to corrupt.
>>66738647
I assume it was someone who had participated in Errol's abuse, and who had been discarded by his masters and fallen into Errol's hands. He was punishing him, perhaps, or merely carrying on the cycle of abuse.
>>66738839
i got more of a vibe that he was being used for occult stuff, like a medium, a sacred book or something.
>>66738810
>the psychosphere which is a kind of shared consciousness
then you see whats on tv, whats on cinemas, whats on cartoons, on mass media in general, and really wonder.
>>66738950
