It starts off fairly slow and the first time around I stopped watching around three quarters way through the first season. Picked it up again a year later and became obsessed. It gets so good. Just need to push through the less-eventful episodes to set the scene and get the characters introduced.

What was the point of viking's pillaging? They got more gold, silver and other shiny but useless stuff, but they gained no actual wealth. So what they had more gold if they still had the same amounts of food, clothes and other basic goods. They lived as well, or as bad, as before pillages, they only increased inflation significantly
