I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies.

Which one should I start with?
>>
>>66629231
Watch in order of release date.
>>
III
>>
>>66629231
5, 6, 9. 10, 77, 69, 4
>>
Torrent the despecialized versions of star wars, Empire strikes back, and return of the Jedi. Skip the prequels unless you MUST see the backstory. Then watch TFA.

Ignore anyone who tries to recommend "machete" order, it's a retarded meme
>>
>>66629231
The won with the most oscars down to the least.
>>
In order of release date obviously.
>>
>>66629270
>Skip the prequels unless you MUST see the backstory. Then watch TFA.

Don't do this. If you're going to skip the prequels then you may as well skip TFA. The only reason to watch TFA would be to join in current discussions and speak to fans and normies about Star Wars in which case you'd look silly if you haven't seen the prequels.
>>
>>66629335
The prequels are bad and mostly completely irrelevant. I would never recommend them to anyone unless they want to see how a big blockbuster can get everything wrong.

I guess most of us appreciate TFA more after the prequel disaster
>>
>>66629401
TFA was a rushed mediocre flick with Marvel tier pacing
>>
>>66629401
You can call the prequels bad but that doesn't make TFA any better. My point was if you're going to recommend OP watch only the 'good' Star Wars films then there is no point for him to watch TFA. The only reason would be to talk about Star Wars and he'd look silly talking about Star Wars without having seen almost half of the films in the series.

this
>>

If anyone absolutely insists on watching the prequels, they can make it less unbearable by just skipping The Phantom Menace and not missing anything of importance
>>
Watch a new hope.
>>
>>66629231
Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Force Awakens

For the original trilogy, find Harmy's Despecialized Editions. They're the closest to the original theatrical cuts and get rid of most, if not all, of the additions and alterations that Lucas made down the line.

Don't bother with the prequels. The movies are bad and the stories change aspects of the Star Wars universe, which essentially get retconned by The Force Awakens. If you really want to watch them, try to find one of the fan edits that people have made that cuts the prequel trilogy down to a single two hour movie.
>>
>>66629435
Agreed, but it was better than mediocre.
>>
>>66629475
>My point was if you're going to recommend OP watch only the 'good' Star Wars films then there is no point for him to watch TFA
Actually, no. Episodes IV, V, and VII are the only good Star Wars films. The prequels, as well as Episode VI, are garbage, and anybody that disagrees is either a contrarian or a nostalgic manchild.
>>
>>66630156
You're the contrarian here
>>
If you're just looking to watch the best ones, just watch the Original Trilogy in order, and maybe check out Revenge of the Sith sometime if you've got a couple hours to kill.

If you're the completionist type, go 4-5-1-2-3-6.
>>
>>66630156
Anyone who genuinely thought episode VII was any good is a manchild, but thinking it better than any of the OT films is just trolling.
>>
>>66630156
You're right about there only being three good SW flicks, but those would be IV, V and III.
>>
>>66629270
>despecialized
That's a lot of extra work for a payoff only autists care about
>>
>>66629231
The Christmas special.

You have a special opportunity here OP.
Best way to go is 4-5-1-2-3-6-7

>they actually think RotJ is anything other than mediocre garbage

IV, V and VII are the only objectively good Star Wars movies.
>>
>>66630156

The prequels were actually pretty good at expanding the universe as well as being visually interesting. I wish I could say the same of Force Awakens. Even the visual guide is smaller than any of the other movies, it was just safe and soulless.
>>
>>66630389
I rewatched ROTJ yesterday and it's not nearly as bad as I remember. The parts with the ewoks were a little goofy, but everything else was great.
>>
>>66630393
>the prequels
>visually interesting
They looked like video games.
>>
>>66630443

What was bad about the designs of the prequels and what was animated poorly?
>>
>>66630389
III > VII
>>
>>66630466
The movies themselves.
>>
watch 4, watch 5, watch 6.

there are no other star wars movies.

;_;
>>
>>66630485

>I don't have a real argument.

I mean while we're on what episode VII did poorly what was even the best score that came out of that movie? God VII was so forgettable.
>>
>>66629270

HAHAHA

>>

(You)
>>
>>66629231

JJ himself has said TFA is hardly canon... so watch the prequels first then episodes IV , V, VI.
>>
>If you'd like to watch them like a normal person who watched them all as they were released
IV, V, VI, I, II, III, VII

>If you'd like to watch the story in chronological order
I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII

>If you'd like to watch the prequels as a retarded flashback
IV, V, I, II, III, VI, VII

>If you'd like to get eased into the series with pretty lights and end it all on a high note
VII, I, II, III, IV, V, VI

I'd recommend the last order, myself. Might be a little confusing, but if you're not an idiot it'll all make sense by the end.
>>
Best order to do it in is:
I, IV, II, V, III, VI

That way you get a great parallel story between Anakin and Luke (2 protags of each series). Don't listen to the autist and forget about VII until you're done and can decide if you want to watch any more of this shit.
>>
Wrath of Khan
>>
IV, V, VI, III

I and II don't really accomplish much and VII is just nostalgia bait (which doesn't apply to you since you haven't watched the movies)
>>
>>66629231

>>
>despecialized versions
How much are they changed? The very first re-release of A New Hope was absolutely an improvement over the '77 version, but I could agree the changes after that were unnecessary.
>>
>>66631040
I really like this. I never considered this order

Watch the original trilogy and ep III

Skip everything else.
>>
>>66629231
IV, V, II, III, VI

don't bother with VII or I
>>
>>66629231
4, 5, 6 first
then watch 3 and 7 any order
skip 1 and 2
>>
>>66629270
Literally fedora the post.

>>66629231
George Lucas (I, II, III, IV, V, VI): “Start with one. That’s the way to do it right: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. That’s the way they’re supposed to be done. Just because it took a long time to film it doesn’t mean you don’t do it in order.”
>>
With the first one, like you would any series
>>
Watch 4, 5 and 6. Then Watch the Prequels so you can appreciate how much better TFA is by comparison.
>>
>>66630613

Don't watch them, it's shit.
